For Sale 2007 Rocket III with Carpenter Engine + Many Extras

You all don't even UNDERSTAND how much I am kicking myself:

I bought a 2006 Mulberry Red Tribal R3R TWO DAYS AGO. TWO. DAYS. AGO. Not even that great of a price: $8200 with 4176 miles on it, but with NO accessories. With TTL and financing, I pushed near $11k to walk out the door of a dealer.

Should always take the time to do your research... 2006 on NADA guides "Tribal" =

Retail= $7,300
Low Retail= $6,000

or

Retail in EXCELLENT condition= $7,500

If you willing to go the non- dealer route should be able to save an additional 1-2k in my experience. Since you had cash in hand why pay the dealer such a premium?

Anyway, I'm sure this doesn't help you but maybe it will help other people looking to buy who stumble on this thread.

I didn't do my research by looking at NADA guides (which are frequently off base by quite a bit), I did my research by looking at the market, and the market put this one near the average price for other 2006es with similiar mileage. But it's also hard to get a hard judge of the market value when there were NO 2006 Mulberry Red Tribals elsewhere in the market. Its hard to get a grip on what the market is when the sample size is relatively low as compared to, say, an 06 Honda Accord.

Also, motorcycles are inherently emotional purchase, and in that vein I wasn't willing to take substitutes; there were few examples in the color and trim option I wanted, and some of those (of course) were newer ones out of my price range. So in the end, the "market" for motorcycles that interested me was down to a handful: again, difficult to make a value judgment there.

ALSO, also, I wasn't willing to wait forever. Right now, I can't afford to wait six months for the perfect deal to show up: I don't even own a car right now (yet) and I'm only here at my wife's parent's house for another week, and this was one of maybe two or three I could personally see that was on my itinerary before I get to my final destination in October.

But yeah, I still will confess I didn't do my research in every corner, as I hadn't even looked at the NADA guide. If I had that info, I might have been able to talk the dealer down a bit. But maybe not, because he said he had another buyer who had called that day...and plus, as I alluded to earlier, I didn't have another 2006 Mulberry Red Tribal with 4k miles to threaten to walk away from him over.

With TTL and financing, I pushed near $11k to walk out the door of a dealer. I was already going to buy the Corbin bags, the windscreen, the engine guard, the guages, the fog lamps etc etc...and that would have already brought me within striking distance of this bike.

But THE NEXT day I start looking for parts and WHAM--I discover this forum. WHY OH WHY DID I NOT FIND THIS FORUM FIRST?!?

Also, I just bought a house (I've been living out of the country for three years now) in LORTON, VA...which the seller will know, because it's in NORTHERN VIRGINIA. Aaauuuugh!! When I was overseas I used a DULLES ADDRESS to forward my mail. Hell, I was looking at houses to buy around there, even.

Dealer asked me if I wanted to put any money down and I was like "Nah, I'll just keep my cash"....BUT I COULD HAVE PAID FOR THE BIKE IN ITS ENTIRETY WITH CASH. But did I? No, I didn't....And now I've already committed to paying for the financing (~$1.5k) of a different bike that I won't get back if I try to resell the thing!

Nelsonto, the dealer said there was no prepayment penalty for paying off the loan early. I DOUBT it will erase the $1.5k finance charge, but if it DOES, then I may buy out the loan for my old bike, leave it at my brother's to sell and then buy your bike...I'll be writing to you again soon.
For the record mate R3R's were not made till 2010. BTW welcome mate.

Anybody up for a Christmas special? With the bike I'll throw in a GPS unit, motorcycle stretch cover, driver and passenger air hawk seat pads, extra Clearview Summer shield with vent, and tall sissy bar with pad.

Am I missing something here? One guy with 6 (count em...6 posts...probably all on this thread) posts is trying to sell a bike for too much money and another guy with 0 (yes I said 0) posts is kicking himself for not buying it? WTF?

BTW...not sure how you post about how bad you screwed the pooch when you bought your bike and still have 0 posts...moderator?

Sorry R3Tex, I guess I should just delete this ad. I apologize for not meeting your approval.
