I just did a full by the book 20k on mine. not too difficult,
hardest part is checkign the valves, and there is an excellent tutorial here for that in the how to section...


also replaced sparkplugs,
and BTW the fuel filter, I used a part from the auto store, almost identical in size, shape and style juts no triumph logo on it.

Or 4 months.... I've had mine 90 days. I have 8400 miles on it now. By the sixth month, I'd have over 15k. I guess I ride a lot ? :twisted:

Naww, not really. I put 2177 miles on mine the first two days I had it. Not bragging, just a fact.

download the book, and the check list, put on a Triumph hat

follow the checklist and the book, the valve check is super simple to do based on the how to posted,

shims and such are a different story, but the how to is very comprehensive.

Question- the book: downloadable service manual? Where can I find this?

I'm not a wrench- at all. I'm an IT guy, and most of what I know about that, I taught myself, so I can pick up technical stuff.

I stopped by a Triumph dealer today and asked about doing some baseline maintenance on the '05 that I just bought, and he suggested bringing it in for a couple of days and spend about $1200 on valve maintenance, inspection, and lube oil and filter. The bike is new to me, I have had it for almost a week. It seems to be in pretty good shape, I rode it from Tennessee to Northern Virginia without incident. It's true that I don't have detailed information on the maintenance history of the bike. The service guy said that it's due for valve inspection (it's at about 16K) and the consequences of not doing so- given that I don't know the bike- could be dire.

Fair or foul? I'm guessing that yes, they do need to be inspected. Regulator's post seems to suggest that it isn't that big a deal to pick up doing it yourself. Special tools needed? The Book?

I just googled "Triumph Rocket 3 service schedule" and got a site that had it in a PDF. Bishop has a link on his signature block to the shop manual.
