Would you upgard to a Roadster?

I spoke with Lushy about bombing the motor in my Standard (well priced cams and pistons were available) .. his advise was to buy a new bike rather than modify mine. This was because of the mileage i've put on my bike. Guess if i could get a decent price for my Standard i'd trade for a Roadster .. maybe .. kind of like having a bike that's a bit different though.

yeah but your bike has done a just few more miles than the OP's 10,000 miles what was yours clocked up to now .... 100,000 + or something which is proof the ol girl's good for high milage

If you look around on here and ebay you might find a newer model for less than half of what your going to give for a new one and it may already have some of the upgrades your going to want. You could have 2 bikes for the price of the new one. I have a boss that bought a new 2012 and spent money on pipes and a dyno tune. His 05 with a K&N filter and tors will out run the 2012. Al

As only 500 of the "Rocket X" have been or are to be made, you probably should have already been on some kind of waiting list. As has been mentioned already, there are things you can do to get better performance out of your current Rocket. But if you've got the money and the desire, go for it.

I agree with @cardinal93 in that you have LOW mileage and want more HP - go Carp 210 or 240 kit.
Get the upgrade kit done at the same time and run a good header (Brute or CES).
A two year old HOT FRESH motor would be KICK ASS!!!

BTW - ABS on a motor is awesome and causes no interference with handling as it only operates after the tire starts to slide.
Tests have shown the only detriment is very slightly more straight line stop distances in dirt, gravel and snow. Also ABS drastically improves the stopping ability of 90% or more riders. Most riders generate .55g to .60g and ABS improves this to .75g to .80g.

If you have to have the X ... buy it.

Otherwise rod the crap out of your 06. My 06 is mildly tuned for more power with a Dobeck Performance AFR Plus and a tweaked tune we install ourselves using TuneECU. Throw in a set of TORs and a cat eliminator and I out run any stock Roadster even with TORs and tune. I purchased an up date kit but it sites on a shelf in the garage as so far no symptoms to indicate the need for it. Total investment in all this is just $1000. What do you want to do with the other $15,000 left over ?

I did the like button on a new one based on your statement that you bought a used one. But you got it used with low mileage, so if it had not been beat up, which is not that easy to determine if you do not know the original owner, I would go the less expensive route.

Then again, I always like to bite the bullet and get new, because you have no idea how someone else used or abused it before you got it. Buy once, cry once

If you want an X you'd better act real fast but I'd almost guarantee you've missed that boat. If money's not a concern, get a new bike and set about making it your own. There's no question they're better than the older ones in many ways, ABS being the thing that I's want the most.

Thanks for no one pointing out my misspells in the topic

Wish I'd broached this subject years ago! I just went from zero to 50 in knowledge on the R3 with everyone's input, and I still don't have a clue

What I do know...I've neglected the bike I have and should have done a LOT to it over the last couple of years, after reading the input from everyone! So, my plan as of today thanks to everyone's input is to up the performance on what I've got, put a custom paint job on it if I really want something different ... and ride the hell out of it . Hell, I may ship it off to Carpenter racing even ( I've thought of this before but always talk myself out of it )

TRULY appreciate all the input!!!

p.s. ****ed .. I like the look of the "X" though.. lol. BTW, I'd spoke to the dealer yesterday .. they could have gotten me one within weeks surprisingly.
