Winter sux bad. Ozzies, tell me about Sunshine and warmth!

Just got a PM from TRIIICK and I'm happy to report that he's warm, safe & sound. 30+" of the white death and no power, but he has a backup genny and a wood burning stove and four of his neighbors are hunkering down with him, so he gets a merit badge for proper prior preparation!.

He reports hearing that there were some serious alterations to the coast of Cape Cod as there was some bad flooding and vicious, erosion-causing, wind-whipped storm tides and waves!

Well done, Rick! Now you are a real Trooper in addition to being a mere Captain.

TC,
Curious here that Marble Bar looks to be on line latitude wise with Townsville in the east side.
Would the weather then be similar?

We were right of the edge of this one. Paralyzed the area with fear and anticipation of 12-18", but nothing really came of it - maybe 4-5" with continuing, off and on snow showers. I like snow, so I'm a bit bummed out - not that I wish for a paralyzing storm, but it makes no difference to me whether we have 16" or 6" - the amount of work involved to clear/remove it is relatively the same.

The real difference is in how long we have to enjoy the break snow often brings... an abrupt break from our everyday hustle and bustle, to luxuriate in the white blanket of serenity and the temporary sense of solitude a good snow brings.

And then there are the visuals, the re-contouring of our landscape, a blend of stark minimalism - an icy, crystalline crispness that contrasts, yet subtly compliments a gravid, fullness - a treat for the eyes which softly enhances all of the lines and curves of both our natural landscape and of the manscape which overlays our environment.

Reminders everywhere pointing out our vulnerabilities and our strengths - the tracks of all of the myriad creatures sharing the habitat with us, that is, until we come along with shovel, with blower or plow, obliterating their temporary reminder that we are not alone in this world. Fleeting beauty, a brief interlude of humility, sanctuary...

Oh well, it was good while it lasted! Time for me to break with this reverie and plunge back into reality as I ready to don extra layers of clothing and protective gear for the extremities and make ready to remove the white death, that very same substance which has induced a deeper, albeit, brief appreciation for what we all tend to take for granted...

Gee Phil I found myself reading this with a Sir David Attenborough accent nice wordsmithing:thumbsup:

Let's see now:
Roads: Clear and ice and snow free-check
Sky: Not a cloud in sight-check
Temp: Up to 22F-check
Work: Going in late today-check
Gear: Layers of warm stuff-check

Blast off!

No mate .. Marble Bar holds the record for the hottest town in Australia. It's always stinking hot there ,a far as i know anyway.

Alrighty, then... about that "sunshine and warmth" there's more than a handful of us that could use a good shot about now (Not including Boog - our resident Inuit;))!

Mayhaps we could hear from Mexican or somebody up in the Dakotas where it's been in the 60s and 70s for the last couple of days?

I'm not Mexican or in the Dakotas; but we're going to hit 80 today.
It was pure torture going back to work after a cozy lunch ride. :D
