windshield shapes

hey guys,

i'm trying to find a windshield shape to lessen windslap, aka buffeting

i have the Corbin fairing, and have found that their clear tall windshield works fairly well at this, but i have to look through the clear windshield, which i don't like! so i'm looking for a windshield that will fit with my Corbin fairing that i can look over and still not get windslap.

i already know that the Harley Electa Glide FLTHC 1996-2013 fits the Corbin fairing, so i know to only look for these windshields. there are several cheapos on eBay for $20-$30 but so far i have been dissapointed with there ability to reduce windslap. so i'm looking at the...

The buffeting is coming from under the fairing (windshield) need lowers.

jag, if your statement is taken as a whole, i completely disagree!

empirically, i have found wind-under-eddies are only one of the factors that contribute to windslap/buffeting.

helmet shape, fairing shape, and windshield shape also effect windslap/buffeting. if you'd like i can give you all the details of my statement, but a discussion about windslap/buffeting contributors, that is not what this thread is about, and i will hope it does not derail from it's intended purpose, which is hearing from any R3 riders' experience with any one of the four aforementioned windshields

All I know is I’ve tried all shapes, length,width, height and vented windshield, the buffeting was still present. I removed the lowers and it was worse. The only thing that seems to work was a windshield that was over my helmet and lowers. Like you I can’t stand looking through a windshield.
So now I’m looking at making the largest lowers I can make and go from there.
A full face helmet seems to make it worse and an open face helmet not as bad, just can’t hear or feel it like a full.
I’ve never had this much of an issue with any other bike. I have five windshields of research and none have eliminated it.
Maybe it’s the radiator causing all the problems??

I have the R3T and what has worked for me is a cheap perplex deflector that clips to the top. By having it further forward it splits the airflow. So instead of a single edge where the wind forms a ‘shock wave, it tends to break up that single wave. No more buffeting.

Just FYI -
I be NO wind tunnel expert, BUT I always have kept my shields as low as possible compared to my seated eye height - NOT related to the bike!
I have never had any buffeting issues, even at 140 mph.

I have the same fairing and bags on my 2013 and made a slightly taller lexan shield for mine and it reduced the buffet. Mine is 13 inches height at the center and I'm 5'9" and I'm looking just over the top edge. If it's raining I have to duck slightly and look through the shield. I wear a Schubert C3 Pro and take the face shield off most of the time. There's still a slight burble to contend with but way better than before. I too have considered modifying the profile of the fairing to further reduce that turbulence but have not launched into that project yet.
