WHY HAVE THE BRIGHTEST TAILLIGHTS POSSIBLE?

is there a bike in there?

(ignore the messy garage)
I found a couple of red glass bead reflective decals for the rear of the bike. Put them on the bags to simulate additional brake lights.
No, it wont help in every scenario, but it should provide a better chance to be seen by a moderately attentive driver.

On the same theme. I have seen some bikes equipped with strobing brake lights. They are quite powerful and white. Not riding behind such bike. It confuses my dyslexic brain. Brighter LED bulbs would be nice.

You be on the correct track here, Art.
However, studies have shown that random placed retro-reflective is not so helpful . . . it should define a recognized shape or form to a driver. Application to the head, shoulders, arms & back of a rider would be best.
A driver may clearly see something, but unless he can recognize it as something he has experienced before, he is unlikely to respond to it until too late.
Brake, turn & running lights are mandated as FMVSS (federal motor vehicle safety standard) and are superior because they are commonly in use and easily identified by all drivers.
A friend has a pulsating LED in his ROCKET tailight and its superbright and reminiscent of emergency police lighting
