Which wire to tap for switched power?

alrighty! I look forward to seeing the connectors you are referring to then It would be pretty good for a "no splice" or cutting solution.

options use the yellow tail light wire***under the fuse box #10 fuse yellow tail light wire.
options AFTER fuse #9 blue & yellow wire cut and splice (ign wire )
on my 07 classic there is enough room and i can see wires good.

I'm going to be a day late - sorry.

The sun is out - the temps are OK-ish and I have "Cabin-Fever". I also need to go and collect a parcel from "Battersea" from the Post Office. But Tomorrow I will be confined to "cabin".

If you will NOT be adding any devices that affect starting (PCV, Dobeck etc) I'd suggest the blue wire in the "Heated Grips" plug as a trigger (and the black "Earth"). They're exactly what Triumph use to trigger the heated grips relay. It's the same feed from the starter relay as the lights - i.e will disconnect from power if you hit the starter. This uses a fairly easy to find AMP/TYCO ECONOSEAL connector.

But Pictures tomorrow - Promise. OK?

Haha! No worries my friend, I am in no real rush... The temperatures today are hovering around -20c, and it will be easily 3 more months before I actually get to ride the rocket for the first time, so have a great ride on my behalf, and take your time making a good picture of the connectors for me!

The reason I am looking for the switched power source is just for my FZ1 fuseblock, nothing more... I just need an absolutely easy source to tap into for the relay switch and the rest I can take care of

OK here goes


A= Accessory Clock Connector - As you can see I use the switched feed and earth to fire my fusebox-relay at the moment. But it's a bit too belt and braces for my liking. This said it's been fine for almost 3 years.
B= Accessory Fuel Gauge Connector. This too has a switched feed plus earth.
C= Accessory Heated Grips Connector. This has a live, earth and switched feed - BUT the switched feed is like the lights - it will disconnect when you hit the starter.
D= Accessory Lights connector. This has a live, earth and switched feed.

See previous wiring diagram for colour codes.

Like I say - UNLESS you will be adding something that needs power for the bike to start - I'd use "C". The Connector you'll need is a very standard AMP/TYCO "ECONOSEAL" 3 Way MALE PIN connector.

I intend to modify my accessory wires a bit. I'll be fitting an "ECONOSEAL" plug to the accessory lights wiring so it's on the grips plug and splice my relay wires into the current existing lights plug.

As for wires under the left side - I have none floating about nor the right.


Y = Triumph accessory lights relay
Z = Automatic hazard flasher that works under hard braking.

the ? is for the California EVAP box I think - it's fired afaik by the ECU - no use.

Dumb question but an easy answer I am sure. Does the PC8 also unload the current going through the ignition switch? Or, if I want a fuse block and an EB assy that unloads the ignition, do I need both? Or, is there a unit that does both functions?

The EB headlight relay system is independant - the PC8 is "just" a fuse box. But I'm sure if you had a chat with the beaver he would build you an all in one solution. You could also ask him to wire the relay trigger to an econoseal connector so you can plug into the heated grips connector.

I used the plug that barbagris marked with a ? It is switched power and is used for nothing on my bike so it seems to be the perfect spot to tap into. The PC8 I got I mounted in the same place as barbagris under the right side cover.

Good feed back - the plug required is a "Junior Timer" male pin 2 way then. Also VERY easy to find. Pink live and earth to frame?

The thing under my right cover is a PC5 and AT. My fusebox is where the filter was - it's a ruddy great big 12 fuse affair fed by a 70amp relay. No reason - just overkill.

What about the accessory socket for the DIN plug. Is that switched? I have found that already and it's easily accessible from the battery compartment area. I could just put a male spade connector on the hot wire couldn't i? I don't see where I can buy these special connectors in my local area and looking to install tomorrow with a friends help.
