When the shop I work at still carried Triumph bikes we ran the Triumph Mobil oil when available. Triumph suggested and approved Honda HP4 10W40 Synthetic Blend oil when their product was un-available due to limited stock. I have been running the Honda HP4 in my bike for years along with the Honda spin on filter.
I know Warp. Forgive me but this discussion just never ends with each person posting their individual preferences!
It's OK...sorry. I have gone through this oil thing forever with this bike and every machine I've owned and there is never a resolution.

I agree.Oil threads are all about people having a say with no real proof for back up. You can not say one oil is better than another until you have done some kind of experiment where a group of engines are subjected to the same rigours and hours ,then torn down and inspected for wear.
Just buy any oil that's within spec and is obviously for wet clutches.
My guess is that oil and filter changes and a good state of tune is far more important than oil brand A ,B or C.
I lost a tappet and damaged my cams after refilling with Rotella T6; after my Carpenter upgrade. This message board's search function is still not working correctly; I was trying to pull up the thread that I started a year or so ago on it.
I have used a few different types of oil in mine all good oils IMO but I did notice a difference on how long they seemed to last when it comes to smooth shifting. So I use a expensive race oil and have discussed with the engineer at depth and this time I am trying another Grade of there oil. I must admit I used Mobile 1 4RT for almost 50,000 miles without a problem but once I went to different internals I noticed it seemed to break down more at least when it comes to shifting verses the oil/engine temperature so I switched to one with more aditives in it form both lubricity without hurting the wet clutch, higher themal breakdown ability, and more anti wear resistant. My choice use what you want and if you have a stocker do not worry about using the reccommended oil which I believe now days is Casteroil. Also Nev reccommends Motul 300V I believe and I would have no problem using what he reccommends nor would I have any problems using what Bob Carpenter Reccommends. In fact I use a brand Bob has reccommended before just a different grade.
As Nev would say good oil is cheaper then good engine parts. Anyone who wants to use something different then all I have to say is its your bike if you want to put a car tire on it go for it.
