We still have friends up there from when we lived there. Will probably end the ride in Anchorage

Sounds like a great ride.
Been there, but always by plane.
Merry Christmas to the both of you!

I cand do South Dakota and vecinities, im afraid Alaska would require too much time, some of us poor bastards have to watch our time and finances:(

and how do you plan on going to alaska?

if you are riding all the way up I strongly suggest for scenery main road # 3 west through BC north to
smithers then new hazelton and turn north on the cassiar highway ( the best scenic road) via dease lake iskut and the border with yukon where you catch the alaska highway if you decide to visit Atlin lake at that point make a side trip to skagway the road is very scenic.

or go to vancouver and board the ferry inside passage to juneau.

Haven't really started looking at routes yet. Last time we came down the Alaska highway through Bamff and into Montana.

I may not have a job by then so I have to spend the time somehow...may as well be on the road on a bike since getting another job in my chosen profession would pretty much be out of the question for a while

Oil & Gas...several hundred thousand jobs gone already. There are folks already walking the street with far better credentials than I so if the hammer falls I don't expect to get another job any time soon. Will keep you posted on the route
