I did write some up here.
It’s growing on me!
More or less agreed with the video opinion (although he gets the capacity wrong at the beginning which isn’t a great start)
Regardless of the numbers, you won’t feel down on torque on the Ducati. Their engines are revvier and more urgent - you’re likely to be a gear or two lower than the rocket anyway, and you’ve got a chunk of extra Rev band in hand. That said, the idea that the Ducati will run rings round the R3 is just wrong. The only place that would be is in a super twisty hairpin type road where the Ducati has more lean angle. The Ducati turns in faster but I still feel that’s more down to the 150 front on the Rocket than anything.
The Ducati is harder sprung - another reason I preferred the Diavel to the XD as with feet forward every bump goes right through your body. And even if you see a big bump coming, you can’t just take a bit more weight on your feet with the pegs out front.
The Rocket isn’t simply more refined, it’s a different planet of refinement. The Ducati always feels like it’s on the edge of spitting it’s dummy out through traffic, where the Rocket, frankly, feels like a car engine.
Finally, the looks. The Diavel is quite dramatic, but quite ugly. The XDiavel is quite stunning but for some reason not that imposing when you see it in the flesh. It’s long but somehow not that dramatic. The Rocket on the other hand is a show stopper. I didn’t even manage to fill up with gas without someone coming over to me wanting to know about it. Every traffic light, every time I’m out, people are looking at it. Don’t get a Rocket if you want to blend into the background.
Final truth, if you get a Diavel or a Rocket, they are great bikes and a privilege to own - you won’t go wrong with either.
