Just ran across this and thought you may be interested. Found several other similar posts as well:
"Yes, find a different place to watch fireworks. There haven't been any fireworks shows at Mt. Rushmore in recent years due to the pine beetle infestation. It has killed many trees and the risk of forest fires is too great. The infestation is the worst in the central part of the Black Hills. Therefore, there are other communities in the Black Hills that offer fireworks. Sorry! They do have a lighting show."
