What tyres are you running?

From hell

If you call me "little" just one more time .....
Where you guys get off throwing out insults like that expecting no response blows me away. Surely you read what you write, I do. This was a discussion about tires, the choice of car tires was attacked with an incorrect 20hp reduction statement, along with poor handling, poor traction and then of all things .... width and diameter statements that are TOTALLY wrong. Do what you want, say what you want, but comments like "taller, narrower tires get better traction" is just WRONG. Defend your "friend" all you want, doesn't make the statement any more right. One dumb statement like that and forever the discussion like it's real. OMG
I'm guilty of escalating this, but no more than you. So don't you dare put this on me, I just tried to right a wrong here. I've been dickin' around with gear ratio's, dyno's, racing and **** for years .... the only **** thing that makes a tire alter numbers is diameter. And that is purely due to gear ratio's and spin weight. PERIOD.
I am so tired of this .... just ****in' forget I was even here.

In fact, ... play amongst yourselvs .... I need a break from this nonsense, trade all the bogus info you want.
AH I see were moving right along with more cheery posts from HELL:eek: now that thats over can we get back to havin FUN with the CAR TIRE info :p

No problem Pete...
This has been very imformative. Not about tires. More about the personality of riders.
Frankly, I think it's kinda cool to have car tires on a bike. I just choose to not have them on my bike.
I've worked with tire engineers for years. Mostly on mining and commercial vehicles. But, the same rules apply. Traction, heat, mileage, safety.........
Regards,
Carl

Tires as a gear

the only **** thing that makes a tire alter numbers is diameter. And that is purely due to gear ratio's and spin weight. PERIOD.

Hey Hellfire....
I'm not here to upset you. And I really am sorry i started the whole dragster thing.
Answer this.
If a one speed dragster has tires that grow during speed isn't the tire at this point become a gear (and changing the grear ratio as it grows) and it addresses the exact issue that you are representing?
I'll never mention a dragster tire again.....unless forced to!!!

I too am sorry for getting wound up and acting as others do (insert your name) as Lester said he does not care he likes it and thats what matters. I just want to see some hard numbers off a dyno wheter its a stock bike with both types of tires or and Triple filters and predator bike with both tires or as Lester was so kind to volunteer my Blower Bike with both tires. Then the answer will be plain to me as I will not dispute the dyno readings and will not have to rely on others opions except aggreeing with what Lester had previously stated.

I'm going to have to re-read my post. :) Sounds like I had some pretty good thoughts.:D
Thanks Scott. And defiantly give me a call when your planning a trip this way.

Lester I was just agreeing with your statement that your bike suits you and that is what matters you are not looking for anymore Horse Power then you have as you have plenty more then the guys you like to ride with. And as well as you liking the car tire verses the motorcycle tire. In a nut shell we build these beast to what we like and that is what matters. I was just currious as to the whether the horse power is loss and if so how much. My Brother Joker pointed out to me that with the weight difference between him and myself the big Rocket follows his lean directions from the weight. Myself my weight varies between 150lbs and 160lbs so the big beast is a little harder for me to lean over with that square car tire.

Hell I can feel the difference when my tire gets 4 K on it and starts to develope that car tire flat on it. I actually have to whip it up on the edge when I am in a curve.

Anyway Lester as I stated your right the most important thing is you have what you like!!!!!

Scott I know what you mean about the high mileage bike tire I was able to feel it with mine before the I put on the darkside. At 230 pounds it's easy enough to bend her to my will. But I could still feel the flat spot, that may be partially due to the higher pressure (41 psi vs 31 psi in the CT). I don't notice the flat spot with the car tire probably because it's all flat. The smoother ride with the CT is most likely from the lower pressure.

As far as the power loss of MT vs CT, it takes more power to accelerate a larger mass but I don't know if it effects power at a steady state, any dyno operator worth his salt should be able to answer that question. BTW my experience is 22 years aviation maintenance so I'm not an authority on the subject but I'm not a complete novice either .
While I didn't weigh my old and new tires I did compare the weights by hand and the CT was around a couple of pounds heavier. Adding weight to the rotating would be a mistake when considering performance mods.

If I were racing Moto GP a CT would be a poor choice. But as I said before it works well for me.
