Well, I lost the gas cap...

Thumbs up on that! Also wondering just how unique our screw in cap is. If you only had one and could go to the right NAPA store with a helpful clerk I wonder if you couldn't get a close enough match.

Any standard HD gas cap should screw in just fine
I think so too. Some of the caps I found said they worked on 1983 and up Harley sportsters as well as the triumphs. That would definitely open up some options. I am really intrigued to make a kit to make the monza lid a real sealed cap to remove and replace the factory one.

I know there's a cap hiding on their shelves that would work. My only concern was digging for one without the giant raised finger bar across the middle, for lid clearance concerns. Also i grabbed the cap off my truck and it grabbed the threads, but it was too large in diameter and caught the lid base ring.

If anyone could shoot a picture of the bottom of their cap that would be most helpful. I'm really just looking for what the original sealing surface and o-ring gasket look like. Thanks!

6 mm thread-to-thread (red), 25mm from bottom of seal to bottom of threaded section (orange), 4 mm from bottom of cap to bottom of seal (green), approx. 44mm O.D. for threaded section (blue).

So much detail! I can even see it has a double lip split oring seal. You're awesome for this Einar, thanks!
