I've been away from the forum for a long time. I am considering selling my 2005 R3 roadster and I wonder if I can sell it as is, or part it out. I can't really ride it any longer, secondary to a neuropathy in the legs that impairs my balance, and an advancing age that impairs my strength. I laid it over in a parking lot a while bike and needed 3 people to get it back up. (dont start with the jokes). I have chased a problem for years where the bike occasionally fails to start. After all this time, and a new ignition switch, and a new starter, (which was expensive!) and relay, various times when the battery was suspect and so forth, I now am convinced I have a broken wire in the harness. Pull in the clutch, press the starter, nothing. Hold the starter button down, and turn the bars and it starts right up. So the last time I rode it I came home, shut it off to open the garage, and then it wouldn't start no matter what. Had to wake a neighbor to get it pushed into the garage. It now sits in front of my lathe that I cannot use until I get the bike out of the way and I just don't want to work on it if I am not going to get to ride it. Would I find a buyer for it as is? Or should I sell the best bits, and scrap the rest. I want to find a buyer who will bring a trailer, and roll it away. I don't expect to get rich selling it. The photo I put on shows the paint, but with rear sets and low bars. All the stock bits are back on it and I could do a deal to include all the homemade bits as well. It has a Scotts steering damper and the rear sets and bars, etc all passed inspection with the SCTA. Motor is internally stock except for Sam's pipe and the secondary plates are out. Stock bits on it right now include horn, windshield, fog lights, passenger gel seat, luggage rack and crash bars and saddle bags. Engine runs good, ... if you can start it.
Any thoughts on what to do?

Having parted and sold the leftovers from a doner car before (repairing my 1971 Buick Skylark), I can tell you it's A LOT of work and hassle dealing with people and/or shipping. I'd recommend selling her whole unless you have time and patience to burn.

Being an '05 I would question if the bike ever had the relay fix to bypass the headlights running directly through the ignition switch. If not my money would be on the ignition switch getting burnt, Failing that I'd check the thick white wire from the battery to the switch. It has been known to break inside the insulation due to flexing from turning the handlebars.

What's your location? I was going to wait 5-6 years for used 2020s to come down in price, but this may be just the ticket... My knees are getting too old for my Blackbird
