Turn on the ignition and everything is fine. Makes all the usual noises and gauges do their normal thing. The motor turns over very strongly, but doesn't fire. Kick stand up, kickstand down, in neutral, in gear. Something won't let it start and I think it is electrical because the fuel pump does its thing when I turn on the ignition switch. Any ideas?

Are you POSITIVE it's the fuel pump you're hearing spool up? I had the same symptoms, thought I heard the pump spool up, etc., and after finding the plugs were bone dry I changed out the fuel pump relay and Voila!
I have a thread called Rocket Died back on about page 4 that goes into a little more detail, but on the Roadster there are 3 relays in a row under the left side cover, fuel pump, ecm, fan. Swap first and third relay and give it a try. Relays available at NAPA.
Good luck!

Any luck yet?

TuneECU is your friend.
One free thing to try is, once you have the relays back in their original places, swap #3 into #2, the ECU relay. Assuming your fan was working anyway...

OK. It was a relay. Mine are not in the right places. Apparently, I added one; probably when I installed the heated grips. The fuel pump relay is now hanging down by itself below the other three. I figured this out after I replaced the fuel pump. Confirmed my opinion that nothing is ever easy.

Well, sorry for the diversion, but glad you got it going! Now go ride!
I've learned to suspect relays because I've had a starter relay, a fuel pump relay and even an Eastern Beaver solid state headlight relay fail on me. I've always attributed it to the weird electric field around me - I consistently trip those anti-shop lifting gizmos walking IN the store or even the electronics section of the store for example.
