Triumph Sprint ST1050

Good evening/morning everyone,
I'm planning on purchasing a sportbike before the season ends but unsure what I really want. A post on Craigslist came past me earlier advertising a 2006 Sprint ST1050.
2006 Triumph Sprint ST1050

Does anyone know how these sportbikes compare to let's say a Ninja/CBR/GSXR? I really like the way the bike looks, and it's a 2006 w/ low miles for only $3500. For the market out here, that is super cheap compared to any Japanese bikes with similar year/miles. If anyone could throw their opinion out there or personal experience, that would be great.

Sprints are a great machine .. 1050 engines are a hoot. Sprints are a ' do it all' type of bike , great through the twisties and you can throw the panniers on and go touring. Got the same engine as my Speed Triple and I love my Speed Triple

I'm wondering why its 1050cc has less horsepower than a 900cc ninja. Like I said, I love the way it looks (without the bags of course)but if I'm going to buy a sportsbike, I want a real sportsbike and I'm just not sure if the Sprint ST can offer that. I am still completely open to buying one but the reason I made that comment is because I am having trouble finding reviews/comparisons on it.

The Sprint ST is more of a Sport Tourer than a true repli-racer. It has less HP, but being a triple, has a bunch more torque. In any street situation, you should be right there with most sport bikes. Full on straight aways, you will be at a little of a disadvantage since the repli-racers have higher rev limits and make their HP higher up in RPMs.


But... the Sprint ST should have come with hard bags for those longer trips (might have been optional?).. Much better than a duffle bag thrown over the back seat..

Sprint 1050's are great bikes. It is a sport touring bike that leans way toward sport.
I will provide you with everything 99.9% of STREET riders will ever need. In the hands of a skilled pilot it will stay with any bike out there.

If you need a PURE sport bike get a Speed Triple. It'll be tuned for more top end-the Sprint has the power a bit more toward torque as it's a S/T bike.

Triumph triples are all about torque, not hp. My buddy Guzzi Dan has ridden both my Sprint and my Rocket, he swears they must have electric motors, they are so linear.

I'm not a big fan of sportbikes with a front fairing which is probably why I haven't considered the Speed Triple. I love the Daytona 675 but its too small for me. I'm looking for something with 900cc+. Too bad I can't find a 955i worth buying, I'd pick it up in a heartbeat.

1050 is a better engine in my opinion.. maybe test ride a couple of Sprints , even try a Speed Triple .. never know !!
