Touring Tires

@R3T-Too
Did I call them crap? If so I was incorrect because they were just not for my bike. Don't know about you, but the best motor is the one my ass is astride! heh heh heh
Dunlop makes excellent motor tires IMHO.
Again I say the Elite 3 was the best I ever ran on the rear of a big bike.
The Sport bike scene has long ago passed me by, so I have not kept up.
I favored Pirelli back then on my Ninjas.

tried the metz, bridge, avons, and bridge again.
the first and later metz are no good in my opinion, the avons are very good in dry weather, and because i live in the Netherlands got the bridge excedra max installed they feel ok in rain and sunshine

9000 Klms on my Avon cobra rear and Excedra (bias) front tyre now about 40% worn ,rear 60% and it has not flung me into the scrub yet!

Not supposed to mix radial and bias-ply that way, but I've never heard of anyone getting off on account of it!

Know Bull I almost changed the front over when I was told ,but I have had this combination several time before and have never had a problem, maybe I don't ride hard enough to expose the problem ,I get the touring over far enough to wear out the Hero knobs on the bottom of the footboards and no wobble or whatever at my self imposed 160KPH limit , However I will heed the advice and fit a Radial front next time and see if I notice the difference

Say what you will, triumph put a tire on a bike that was out of spec, that tire could have killed some people and probably would had it sold like a goldwing or other high selling bike.

You are easy prey aren't you?

I got 4,100 out of my stock Metz. Front and rear they were bald except for the chicken strips.

I installed a set of Excedra Max and at 3,000 the rear is down to Chicken strips. That did handle well. The front looks at least 60%.

I am going to try the rear Elite 3 - 180/70-16 and see how it lasts. I like the corners and this bike and I are heavy, but this just seems to simply eat tires. i will try the Mabeline, oops sorry Avon next if the elite 3 does not hold up. I had an Elite 3 on a BMW yeats ago and liked it. I am happy with the Excedra Max front so far.

That is a lot of wear pretty quick on the Exedra Max. I am coming up on 8K+ miles and am now ordering another one. I could probably get another 1-2K miles out of the one on there now but why push it? FWIW, I ride solo 98% of the time, I weigh 220 and I have Progressive shocks mounted. I normally drive fairly sedately, usually only 10+ or so over the speed limit on the highway and no sudden starts or stops unless necessary. I wonder if the heat you ride in (assuming on location) has anything to do with rapid wear.

I am of Viking blood and have about 100 pounds on you and sometimes ride Ruth my son that weighs 170 on back. My riding is all pleasure and mostly canyons or mountains. Probably 10% freeway. I ride fairly aggressive with sport bike riders. Heavy guy, hot weather, canyons, heavy bike = tire wear.

That'll do it.
