Touring Tires

Just FYI -
If I had the R3T I would be running the Dunlop 180/70/16 Elite 3.
An all round great tire! Do not confuse the Elite 3 with the American Elite, which is a for crap HD tire.

Seems like the assumption was made by you riders, not by the manufacturer.

Say what you will, triumph put a tire on a bike that was out of spec, that tire could have killed some people and probably would had it sold like a goldwing or other high selling bike.

You are easy prey aren't you?

Your assertions about both the manufacturer and me are so blatantly stupid, I'll see if you can guess the answer. At least you have a 50% chance of guessing correctly.

Elvis has left the building and left his brain in the men's John.

The Metz 240 was purpose built for Triumph - specifically for their R3 - and, although there are now a few other 240s that are better choices, there's nothing inherently wrong with the tire. The OEM 180 on the R3T is a fine tire, too, but there are also more to choose from.

Earth to dip****, this is the R3T forum not the one with the 240 tire......duh, who looks like a ****ing idiot now?

The 180 tire that came out on the R3T blistered and could have cost some lives. End of story **** stick

Other than for your shockingly advanced stage of brain death, why do you feel compelled to re-state the obvious?
A defective tire that was recalled and discarded by the mfr., WTF? You assert that this was both a known and purposeful conspiracy aimed at witless Rocket buyers? As far as I can tell, you are the only one that meets and exceeds that qualication.

As usual you have nothing but your stupid **** that is completely without reason.

OK, I'm done with you, Elvis. Pretend like I never existed and I'll extend the same courtesy to you.

Have a very Merry Christmas and try not to blow any more gaskets!

Hey Bull,
Why don't you like the American Elite?

I put 13,000 miles on a rear (2nd Gen) American Elite scraping the boards off my Voyager; the only reason I changed it was because of a puncture. It still had several thousand left.
I tried the Commander II and it wasn't a bad tire; but I liked the stiffer sidewall of the Dunlop.

I'm still debating whether I'll stick with a radial or go with the American Elite 180/65-16. It's not like I need the speed rating of radial.

Scott,
First off they are not offered in appropriate size for the rear of my Roadster.
Second, is only that my brother has ran two of them on the rear of his Stratoliner and while they performed well, they only lasted him about 6-7K miles.
Third, the thing is made for Harleys. Posted on the Dunlop web site: "Dunlop’s American Elite is the only aftermarket tire line for Harley-Davidson motorcycles that is designed, tested and manufactured in the U.S.A."
Forth, for your R3T, it looks to me like only bias ply are available for the rear and nothing for the front. Are bias ply recommended for the R3T?
Obviously of no use to an R3T, but Dunlop does offer a 140/75R17 in this model which is "V" speed rated and on my Roadster tire list. I may try one out after I mount and wear out the Avon Azaro waiting in my garage.

Not fitting the Roadster doesn't make them "crap". Especially in a thread titled 'Touring Tires'.

Neither does the fact that they were designed for HD. I'm no kool-aid drinker, but the sheer number of Harleys on the road means a lot of good products are made specifically for them. It doesn't affect the rim diameter, width or bead profile. They fit just fine.

The tires that Triumph recommends for the R3T are radials; but as I'm sure you know; a LOT of people have used bias with no issues.

Now, your brother only getting 6-7k miles would give me second thoughts about them too. But the ones I've used on my Voyager would have done 16-17k easy.

I'm guessing the Elite 3 is a radial?
I'll have to read up it; because I've liked the Dunops on my VV so much.
