touring tire pressure

Not that 2 lbs should matter but I believe its 38lbs front and 41 rear.........I dont think it would make a difference though........My front mets has a shake at 30mph if I take my hands off the bars ever since the recall....not sure if my dealer (now defunct) caused an issue or not but every time i turn right (or lean into a heavy corner right) it feels as though the bike wants to slip out from me.....going left feels more solid......looking forward to new rubber! :D

mutt

A buddy of mine is a Harley master tech. He said Harley states to air up the front tire to 60 pounds and then ride the bike. If the handle bar shake goes away it's the front tire. Scientific as all Hell huh?

Mine would shake on deceleration exactly at 40 MPH if you took your hands off the bars or lightly covered the bars instead of gripping the bars. My dealer said the handle bars were made to hold on to, not to take your hands off. What an answer!

What recall did you have done.

When I bought my R3T (08) It had the original Bridgestones and Triumph recalled them because they were falling apart. Bridgestone claimed in was the torque....Metz became the new OEM tire........Thats what i still have on the bike since about mid 09......I only have 8500 miles on the bike.........maybe I will try put the psi to it and checking if its the tire or head stock bearing.........dont have much faith in the dealer I used at the time so maybe head stock bearing could be an issue

If your front tire is cupped like mine was, I'll bet it's the tire. First ride after replacing the tires and the problem was gone. But to make sure, try airing the front tire up to 60 pounds. My buddy said the test works. He also said if the steering head bearings are loose enough to cause the problem, they would have to be real loose.

Tire Presure

Had a Wing for a short time. Was told 41 psi in front on Dunlop E3 was perfect. I am trying the same on these Metzelers. Will let you know.

R3T Tires

My 2010 had the Metzlers. I picked up a nail in the original rear tire at 2500 miles and had it replaced. I then went to 13,000 miles before having the front and that rear replaced, so I got 13,000 on the front Metzler and 10,500 on the rear one. I replaced them both with Michelin Commander II bias ply tires, which are claimed to last something like 20,000 miles. So far I have liked the Michelins better than the Metzlers. Handling is improved and the wet road performance is as good or better. I also get a better ride with less bounce and the tires do not follow tar snakes and road grooves the way the Metzlers did. The bias ply tires work better at a lower pressure with the front being 32 psi and the rear at 36 psi. More of the tread is actually touching the road instead of just wearing out the center portion of the tread.

Mmmm the dreaded tyre ... I'm sick of spending big money on the tyres for the rocket , the front tyre i've got on now has done 5000 klm's , thats 3000 miles and i've started to develop cupping and the handlebar shake .

But front tyres i generally averaged about 7-8000 klm , running on 36 , but the last set , the dealer made a mistake and put on the cheaper tyre , bi ply or something they call it , anyway after assuring me it would be ok provided i did'nt do excessive speeds 170 klm p h, then it should be alright ,

So i run that tyre at 38 psi at around 6000 klm i had a long trip coming up so i changed both tyres , and was pleasantly suprised that the cheaper tyre

1--- Has no cupping showing up

2--- Has plenty of tread left , so much so that its in the garage going to be put back on when the other needs replacing .

So after the success at 38 psi , i run the new tyre at 38psi and like i said 5000klm later , theres lots of tread but the cupping is starting and so is the shakes ,, back tyres have been fairly consistent at around 7-8000 klm .

To be honest , it is one reason i'm thinking of changing bikes , i've always said at 50,000 klm the bike is going , i'm at 40,000 now , but because of the tyre expense it too much money , its like 650 dollars for 2 tyres every 7-8000 klm's .

I've never had to continually spend on tyres on any other bike i've had . and for that reason i'm seriously thinking about the road king or maybee a sports tourer when its time to change .

That would be a shame Paul, have you tried a different brand like bridgestones

I've not tried any other brand , On the touring model they recalled the Bridgestone tyres , because of them seperating it was explained to me that the bridgestones could'nt handle the torque the RT3 put out .

I've just checked my paper work and from reciepts i've got the front has been reasonably consistent at about 10 000 the rear consistent at around 8000 klm , but the bi ply running at 38psi was definetly the best Looks like i put it on at 23500, and changed it at 33000 thats 9500 and its still got plenty of tread and NO cupping , enough left to put it back on if i don't go doiung a big journey

So overall i guess thats pretty good , and it was around 160 dollars cheaper .

Now i've checked its not has bad , suppose i feel it in the pocket because i run 2 bikes .
Your trip to Queensland will be coming soon , have a good time , i'm off to the states for 4 weeks on the 27th aug otherwise i would definetly of come up .

Still the missis has said tonight that when we get back the weather will be better and she would'nt mind a couple of weeks riding around , so with a bit of luck we will get over your way in october , so enjoy Hervey Bay its a great spot , i rode up there a couple of years ago , . . Only thing is i went in june and it pissed down with rain , all the way up there , turned nice when i was there , and started raining the minuite i set of for home and did'nt stop till i got home 5 days later

I just spent $150.00 on a 205/55-16 rear Runflat Car Tire. It is awesome. 32psi and plan for it to last 30k miles.
