I had a 1:1s in 1982 an all black bike with gold wheels and what we used to call a bikini fairing
For that time it wasn't a bad engine..2 valves if I can remember and it handled like a supermarket trolley....but we didn't know any better
I think it could take the Rocket.....if the Rocket had a puncture and the Yamaha was fired from a steam catapult

They used to call them the Elephant ,actually one was entered in the Castrol 6 hour production race at Amaroo park raceway in the 80s and went OK ,an ugly big slug by today's standards but it was a different era then.

The XS1100 was a touring bike and never was a match for the equivalent Suzuki of the same year the GS1100G or the Kawasaki KZ1100 all shaft drive tourers. Let alone the sports bikes of the early 80's. I had a Suzuki GSX1135EFE in 1985 they were the fastest production bike money could buy at the time and I know a Rocket 111 any Rocket111 would leave it for dead.

Hey Bruce weren't they the silver ones that used to get the tank slappers, I just remember the EFE letters from the past ,I had a Yamaha FZR 1000 that was pretty quick for its day ,its 'hard to compare memories with the cold hard facts of today ., used to think a XS 650 was fast in a straight line but in the corners a nightmare I think Yamaha put a hinge in the frame it twisted that badly.

Yes silvery blue there's photos of it in good condition and smashed in the 30 years ago thread. Used to shake it's head sometimes at low speed when braking hard. Very unnerving only did it to me a few times and if you sat up and took your hands off the bars when you came into an 80k zone it would shake it's head untill you grabbed the bars again. Soon learned not to do that. Suzuki's experiment with 16 inch front wheel.

What bruce said - IN SPADES!
My brother had the XS1100 and I the KZ1000. NO contest - the KZ greased it every time!
My Roadster is no doubt faster than my KZ1000 was. Hell just look at the quarter mile times!

I haven't got early old mans disease after all, I just remember a lot of ho ha about the bike at the time it surprised me because the GS 1000s handled so well I had a well used Mick Cooley replica for a while ,great Bike!

well my brother had the kawasaki Z1300 six the fuel injector one i just looked at an old mag and 1/4 mile with stock tyer was 11.55 witch about the same as the r3 it weighed 294 kg dry with 130 hp vs r3 320 kg dry and 142 hp, that bike was the smoothest engine i have ever felt and it was the king of heavy weight for it's time

I remember taking a Z1300 kwaka for a test ride in the 80s and didn't like it over the katana because it would power slide when you opened it up exiting a corner.
I suppose the difference between then and now would be the tyre technology.

that's because the stock tyres' were not up to it a set of metzlers much improved it's grip would of improved the 1/4 mile to as the mag tester said they waist a second wheel spinning try to get it off the line remember they only had a 130 wide tyre back then
