The Official Rocket Across America IV Thread

I got permission from the spousal unit to go. She can't go since she's a teacher and can't take off.

Maybe Britman, and possibly RoadHouseCharley, can ride along with me. Just settle on the spot. That Chimney Rock area sounds like a winner.

If one of the attractions for going is riding the Dragon.... Deal's Gap is 138 miles (one way) from Chimney Rock.

Granted... there is some beautiful riding around the Chimney Rock area.

If Deal's Gap isn't a big consideration, then what about the Boone/Blowing Rock area? Plenty of hotels, lots of bars, and you're right off of the Blue Ridge Parkway.

my vote goes for chimney rock any where in the area is fine. Now the one thing that we all must think about is the number of people and rooms that we will need from experiences organizing rides I have had better luck either getting one hotel or 2 that are side by side an area like Cherokee or Maggie valley would allow this, for those that would like a drink cherokee is dry. There is allot to consider

Are you saying there is no alcohol at the Casino in downtown Cherokee??? I dont think I have EVER been to a casino with no alcohol.

Ratboy,

When I recommended Chimney Rock, I was thinking that it is a little more motorcycle friendly than Boone/Blowing Rock. I think the hotel in Chimney Rock seems to be a little more bike friendly also and that the price would be better. There is also a motorcycle retail business in Chimney Rock (mostly clothes, accessories, but Harley oriented).

I also thought that the riding from Chimney Rock to and on the Parkway would be nice out and back trips. Like from Chimney Rock to Blowing Rock and back and/or Chimney Rock to Mt. Mitchell and back, etc. There are some great roads as you probably know.

Being that Chimney Rock is not too far from Asheville, it would likely be better for bike repair than Blowing Rock/Boone. Just my thoughts.

Wow . . that's nice. Nice area as well. Still close to the parkway . . not a real long trip to the dragon . . and close to things like the Dinner Train rides in Bryson City.

Isnt Chimney Rock the little town with the nasty noise ordinance just up the mountain from Lenoir?

There isnt a Triumph dealer in Asheville . . . closest is Charlotte - nice folks.
