How does everyone like those HD adds that have been appearing lately? I wonder if the Rocket would be considered a "competitive" trade. Wow and an additional $500 to boot...almost makes you wanna..........

Yeah, the Rocket definitely qualifies. Here are the Ts & Cs:

The $500 credit is in addition to the dealer trade-in quote. The thing I find a bit amusing is the high and mighty, elitist mentality HD admitting they have competitors. It's about time they woke up and smelled the coffee.

I think I'd have to disagree there, Daryl. It states "The Harley-Davidson dealer has the right to decline any trade-ins." Good for them for admitting they have competition, but I doubt they'd be willing to put a second-hand Rocket on the floor and prove that there's something better out there...

Well, I know for a fact that Pensacola HD will trade for a Rocket. I talked to them last week. They wouldn't put it on the floor, however. They'd wholesale it. But, that's what they'd do with any non Harley trade. In fact, that's how they come up with the trade figure. They offer you whatever the wholesaler offers them. But, that goes for all brands, not just Triumph, as they have no interest in *any* bike other than a Harley sitting on their floor.

There were a couple of Harleys on my list of bikes to check out. I ended up not being interested in buying a Harley, but I was curious to see what they would offer on trade. I figured they'd try their best (as most any car or motorcycle dealer would) to put that $500 in their own pocket by low balling my trade, but they didn't. They offered the same trade as most of the other dealers around town. In fact, they matched what Triumph would do on a trade so I would've actually ended up with $500 more on trade than with the Triumph dealer. But again, I ended up not being interested in any of their bikes.

I'm pretty much a Triumph fella and can't envision that changing anytime soon.

p.s. I ended up not trading my Rocket when I bought the Thunderbird. The dealer offered to sell it for me so I'm going that route. I thought that was pretty nice of 'em. Of course, I've bought 4 bikes from them (3 in 2 years) so I'm sure that factored into the equation. I doubt they'd do that for just any Joe Blow off the street; at least not without taking a commission.

I saw the latest edition of American Rider magazine (whose slogan is Harley Davidson riding at its best) a Victory is on the cover and they really couldn't find much bad to say about it.

Well Daryl, at least it appears they did want to compete, but as you mentioned I just haven't found one (either) that did anything for me....maybe a water cooled Ultra...CVO??? But for the kind of bucks they would probably want, the Gold Wing would be at least even if not still a little ahead if they (Honda) also step up to the plate and do a major update on their almost 10 year old design.

Having ridden your R3T I have a feeling that is what I will be going for when this is all over...in blue apparently (no red/black version available for 2010) with ABS. I even have accessories already picked out...so we'll see....I've got plenty of time yet.

I saw the latest edition of American Rider magazine (whose slogan is Harley Davidson riding at its best) a Victory is on the cover and they really couldn't find much bad to say about it.

I've ridden a few Vicotory models. The only one I didn't like was the Vision. It rode fine for a large bike and was balanced, etc... But, the fit and finish and all the plastic was pathetic. Additionally, the bags look huge, but you'd be lucky to get much more than a half helmet in one. They're tiny in terms of interior volume. The other gripe I have with ALL the Victory models is the side plate. It doesn't come down far enough to cover the battery and some associated wiring.
