That box!!

I think I might have found what the box under the gearbox on the Roadster is for. While trying to poke a spring through it to see what was in it, I realised it's maybe there to equalise the pipe lengths to both silencers.

if you look at this pic, (if it appears) ,taken as if you were standing where the engine is, the exhaust to the RH can goes into the box and straight out down the long pipe, but the exhaust to the LH can has to do a sort of "figure-of-eight " flow inside the box before it exits. it adds up to roughly the same length as the pipe to the RH can, but is smaller bore.

Just a thought...but I'm going to make something better

I cut mimne open. YThere is a baffle plate theat catches the exhaust from the header and then lets it bypass to the small diameter pipes. Note the swaged ends are 1.2 inches ID. What a restrictive joke. Huge improvement with the Staintune crossover and an even better one with the Jardines..

On the Roadster? Are you sure about that? I thought the cats were in each pipe. I don't know. That box seems awfully small for a cat box.

That's not a cat box, just a restrictive box. On the Roadster, the cats are in the pipes only. Not like the standard R3.

Dealer told me that the R3T has cats in each exhaust pipe. I don't think the TORS(Triumph Off Road Silencers) have cats, for the pics on you tube show straight through. By the way, does anyone know of a off road park that I can ride in once I have them installed?

They are definitely in the pipes of the 2010 Roadster. They seem to get hotter after the bike has been shut down. I came home took my riding pants off and put on shorts. Started to get my things off the bike and received a nasty burn on my leg. I will not get close to the bike with shorts on that's for sure. Im hoping the TOR silencers do not have cats but they probably do.

Well I found out doing a little research that the TORs do not have cats... thank goodness. See post #5 of this thread!
