in an effort to actually try to give the OP some actual help, here goes:

I replaced the fuel cap assembly with an aftermarket set that doesn't produce the reflection. Found on ebay...

After all that banter, if, just if it were to have happened to me a few times while riding along the coast road while the sun is getting close to setting, I don't think I would say it has ever has happened to me.

When I ride east in the afternoons down here, I don't even try to read my tach or speedo, as the glare off the glass is too much.

So far, the chrome ring around the gas cap hasn't bothered me.

I suppose some of the angle/glare may be related to how tall the rider is.
