My Toyota fob only unlocks the doors if you are right up to the car yet they are one of the most stolen vehicles up here because thieves can clone the fob in your house and drive the car away right then. I can't unlock the doors or start the car unless the fob is right there but I can lock the doors from well inside my house!

Read a little more closely... they are rerouting... basically bouncing the signal over a repeater to get the door open and started. They risk stalling and not being able to restart once they are out of range.
Also note, they are getting just on the other side of your front door... within the 2-3 feet I mentioned earlier. Move the keys away from the door or get a motion light on your front porch.
