I had the good fortune of finding a complete factory exhaust system from an upgraded 2011 R3T:x3: on E-Bay.
I have been looking around for a better sounding, better performing set of silencers for my 2013 R3R.
I would like to know if anyone on here has cut their pipes down to shortys and what they found.

Yep, agreed, they are Touring pipes. Gonna run them through the band saw or get out the hole saw anyway and see what we can make. Maybe a set of long tubes for my R3R...try and figure out how to rid of get the baffles and cat.

Hi Dan,
I have bought a second hand pair of touring pipes to do exactly the same thing. I'm thinking of cutting them at the point where they enlarge (where the covers end) and then shortening the tubes down to about 12", packing what's left with a 2" perf' baffle and glass fibre, then tig welding them together and hitting them with satin black heatproof paint.....that should wake the neighbours up a bit when it fires into life !
(Pics to follow when there's any progress)

Sounds like we are doing roughly the same thing here. I will start to post step by step pics whether it works out or not...lol

Here's an update on my pipes, I cut them on the bandsaw and took around half the length off the body of the pipes. Because they are Tourer pipes they are mounted differently and had to be turned 90 degrees so the mounts were reusable. 2" perforated tube and glass wadding have been used to dampen the noise and then I welded them back together, the rhs did take a bit more persuasion to fit though because the R3T inlet has an offset on the original which is different to the R3R.
They mount onto the R3R brackets, still use the covers and all the welds are covered, sound isn't too bad either. If they stay on the bike they will be getting coated in heat-proof black along with the header covers. image.jpg image.jpg image.jpg image.jpg image.jpg image.jpg
I'm undecided if I like them to be honest and may just make my own stainless end cans but it was worth a day in the garage playing

They look mint! Question: Is the baffle that I see protruding from the can factory or something after-market? Can you post a sound clip?

Dan, the baffle you can see is the stuff I added not factory, (I had used 2 pieces pushed inside each other that would adjust to the correct length when the end cap was pushed on for reference only).
I could of literally just cut the middle section out and welded the cap back on if I had wanted to leave them empty.
Will make a sound clip and attach it when I get the chance to go back in the garage.
