Something Failed, let’s find it! Transmission Analysis.

I personally don't think adding a sixth gear would be economically feasible. I was kinda going to bat for @TURBO200R4. I think he was talking about upping the size of fifth gear input, and reducing the size of fifth gear output. Again, not an easy task, but doable. I believe he was just putting an idea out there. You've forgot more about gears than most of us will ever know. I don't believe he was trying to over simplify the problem.

WHY? IT's a Rocket. Sorry but there is a limit. You want all that go buy it already to go. Plenty of high dollar hot rods from the factory that can outrun the Rocket. $ell a fixed Honda can do it. Know of plenty of CBR's that can smoke a Rocket. 180 to 200 miles per hour plus if worked right. But that is not what it is about. Love the Rocket X but lets get real here. It is by far not the fastest bike out there. It is what it is. A #amn good bike with a lot presence on the road. Not the fastest or the most maneuverable but a lot of fun to ride.:thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup: Real world is this 42,000 miles and lost count of tire changes but right about now hoping the rain stops so we can go out and get the bike tire off so we can get it to Tulsa for a tire change early in the morning. Made some mods to the bike but just average stuff nothing special. Original transmission and motor. Runs like a top. If I really wanted to out run everything on the road it would not be on a Rocket. Desire to ride a bike a lot of miles with a history of being solid that is fun to ride my choice was the Rocket X. Not a race bike but a real kick to own. :whitstling::whitstling::whitstling::whitstling::whitstling::whitstling::whitstling::whitstling:

Not a single stock vehicle for sale at any price that will outrun my rocket.

About adding 6th, I respectfully disagree about the challenges involved or space available.

Economical? no, but neither is modifying a motorcycle for 2,3,4 or more times stock power.

Also, keep in mind, I’m not doing anything, one of the best gear/trans shops in the country will be doing it.

Don’t use their website as an indicator of their abilities, check out their Facebook page, they can build just about anything you ask for...for a price.

Economically Feasible:confused::confused::confused::confused::confused::confused: Fred, Rob has spent about 200,000 pounds not dollars on his bike so I say go for it after all it is only one more gear to break :D

So, we just keep watching this space to see the new beast arise...keep on posting, it's very educational! Love to see the cost and results 'if' a sixth gear can be installed - very inspiring!!

@Claviger I hate to rain on your parade, but owning the same motor as you I know the best economy cruising is a steady speed of 90 mph (37.5 mpg). If you added the 6th gear (not sure on the fancy math), it would raise the optimum cruising speed to about 110 mph. I sure hope the Germans have extended the Autobahn to pass close to your house. :whitstling:

Wind resistance and aerodynamics aside, keep in mind that red line in 5th gear on a Carpenter Rocket is238 mph. I mostly agree with your post, but I Carpentered mine anyway, and now I want a Turbo. Just because this is America. :D
