Something Failed, let’s find it! Transmission Analysis.

As for trans failures most times it is hard to tell why because we do not immediately put it on a trailer so we can diagnose the problems. Instead we try things whilst both fingers are in our eyes . Then when we free up the problem try a few things grind a few more things transfer more bits everwhere to thoroughly confuse us as to what the original problem could have been prior to releasing the second wave of grenades. Its hard I know its expensive lord do I know!!!!
 
I believe @Rocket Scientist had the grooves machined deeper and fitted smaller ID circlips - hopefully he will confirm :D

This is interesting....something id inspect for is groove width and diameter. Circlips are extremly strong, but only if properly fit. Im a machinist, and ive made countless shafts, and I can say the groove width and diameter is critical and close tolerance in almost every case. The machinist handbook has tolerances (standard fit). If someone can give me the size of these circlips il happily look up the specs and report....
 
Aaaand I’ve hit an impasse

Not having any of the Triumph cash cow special tools I cannot remove the rotor for the alternator.

There’s 1 bolt back there holding the stator in that threads into the bottom 1/2 of the cases.

No way to get it out as it intereferes with the rotor when trying to unscrew it.

More pictures. The only visible wear/damage thus far is the clutch basket and the gear position rod. The basket has scratches and gouges, the gear position rod has galling on one portion.

Also it wasn’t far to my house from where it went booboo, so there won’t be significant secondary damage I don’t think.

Good news story:

Seattle Triumph has the tools and is will to let me borrow them if I leave a deposit on the tool refunded when I return it! YAY. Work resumes on Tuesday.

Interesting News story:

They've built a 265 Rocket and installed Robinson trans stuff before... there be a lurker with a 265 rocket in the PNW...

Did you reverse the shifter do you were 1 up 4 down?

Correct, no idea if it was a contributing factor, but I doubt it. I made sure the shift arm had the same angle in relation to the shift shaft as when 1 down 4 up in order to maintain similar leverage on the mechanism.

I'm going back to normal pattern and no quick shifter to eliminate any potential issues with how I had it set up.

So besides reversing the shift pattern you also have been experimentimg with the quick shifter

This was the culprit that killed mine.

All the circlips in mine were facing the wrong way. My guess is whoever did the update kit, didn't bother to read the manual and likely reused the old circlips. Could have also been one of those arses that spreads the circlip twice as far as necessary "because it's easier". Robinson's widened my shaft grooves but only deeped them a bit. The grooves are on the splines so deepening doesn't affect the integrity of the shaft. The clips they use look like they have been surface ground so they don't have that round edge on one side.
