Something Failed, let’s find it! Transmission Analysis.

I agree with @Speedy with the air stuff he said, I'm not a scientist. @Claviger , you have spent so much money on this bike, maybe a new set of primary drive gears will be within the budget? Spin the box a bit quicker to take some load off it. Or don't use use the torque all of the time.

I’m going to adjust the way I ride the rocket and get my Daytona servicing done so a I can ride that as an alternative.

Transmission plans:

Replace the broken gear (or gears) and have them back cut at Robinson prior to getting WPC coated.

Upgrade Circlips - larger ones with bigger grooves. Spoke with Robinson this morning, he quoted under $100 and 2-3 week lead time.

WPC Treatment on the following - Shift drum, all forks, shift rod, detent wheel, clutch actuation rod, Tapered Lifter, 1-5 input, 1-5 Output, input shaft, output shaft, gear position rod, shift arm and actuator, oil pressure pump gear, chain, and driven cog.

I have been looking into getting custom primaries cut, so far, no takers, they don’t even want the work for the shops I’ve tried.

More restrained a bit. Mine feels and handles like a big sport bike, it’s no harder to turn than my Daytona, it’s faster and I generally ride it as a big sportbike. Just going to dial back a bit.

That’s ridiculous. It’s like having a super hot young thing and doing her less often to keep her fresh.:D:D:p:D

I agree!! Who knows, since I've decided I'm doing all my own maintenance since no one else does it to standard in the Continental US, I may just start stocking trans parts and doing an annual rebuild !!

ROFL

Pretty sure I could go from running bike on Friday, do a trans rebuild in 1 weekend, and ride it to work Monday if I had the parts on hand.

what is WPC ?
and since you seem to know much about transmission i got my trans back from robinson's industries with the standard improvement . went riding but I still have the "snapping noise in 5th from 2500 rpm when going uphill which is why I had it opened up and shipped to robinson in the first place thinking backcutting bigger grooves and circlips would take care of the situation
do you care to venture an opinion on this mysterious situation ?

@albertaduke I had the same issue in 5th, but it was only from 2900-3100 RPM and only at 13-18% throttle (climbing hills cruising at 80 in 5th). Bizarre right? I could feel something loose in the trans kind of clicking/rattling around. Thought it was slight detonation, but it wasn't. Eventually whatever it was stopped doing it, mostly, after 1,000 miles or so.

Sorry to hear yours is still doing it after the circlips, that's what I was hoping the cause was.

Sounds like whatever was going on in mine, you also have, Trans should be completely pulled by Wednesday evening, then I'll set about measuring everything very carefully and see what I can find. The problem is so strange I honestly don't even know where to start looking for the "loose/clicking" that was going on.

Dumbed down a lot, WPC is essentially micro-shot peening that has added benefits over standard shot peening, a lot of them, it sounds like smoke and mirrors to sell snake oil, but, given the caliber of race teams that use it, there HAS to be some legitimacy to it.
What is WPC?

Backing up just a little Rob to when you were mentioning "Riding Style"
Do you really think that this Rocket gearbox is just not up to the job of handling the power and torque that you have been putting through it ?

I ask this as my 1000cc Stroker Meriden Trident would eat gear box's.
I'd do a gearbox about every two years, some times less :(
These Meriden 5 speed Gear box's are a very good, slick shifting 'box, and are known to be a good strong box, BUT they have design limitations, I exceeded that !
