Sluggish Idle after bike heats up...

I'd not remove secondaries. I just put mine back in today after a long time without them, zero change in the 3600-7000 full throttle fueling requires to ride the perfect AFR, meaning they aren't a significant restriction when fully open.

Your problem isn't a tune issue or ecu issue, it'll be something with the stepper motor or the secondary throttle position sensor, until those are fixed, it may be running sluggish, because it may just be leaving the secondary throttles closed (it still lets some air by, 0% secondary setting still has a healthy crack to allow some air to flow).

I DID find at lower RPM, sub 2400, having them at a partially open position helped throttle response. Something similar to the below, but I use Tuneboy:

Thanks! I read elsewhere on this forum that the steppers are only available with the complete throttle bodies? Or can they be repaired individually?

They aren't sold separately. You can pick up a whole TB assembly for about $250 on eBay though. Swap it and you've now got a ton of extra spares. First though, verify its not just the secondary TPS and is in fact the stepped.

You can do so by removing the intake so you can see the throttle blades. When turning on the ignition but not running, they should swing open, then closed, then to whatever point they are commanded in your tune at 0%.

I guess I'll put mine back in and see what happens.

Bike is going into the shop tomorrow so I should have some more news to report after that.

Thanks for the pointers. At least it will give me something to talk to the mechanic about.

For what its worth
there was a guy that had this code. it was under warranty so went to dealer. dealer replaced the throttle bodys and it did not fix the problems then they replaced the ecu and according to the dealer it fixed the problem.
just because the light went out does not mean that the code went away it just meant the the computer reset when u turn the key off and on.
if your bike is covered under warranty then let them fix it.
if your bike is not covered under warranty then before i would not let them start guessing i would clear the code with tunecu/or a obd 2 scanner and see if it works ok and if the code comes back.
if the code comes back then with the tunecu u can moniter the secondary tps to see if there is a problem. hth herman

one more thing i don't think that the rocket has a limp mode. the link below is the thread that i was talking about. i did not read this thread again but i think they said that the ecu had a lose terminal on it. To me that says that it might have burn out and if yours is the same u should be able to see a problem with the tunecu. u would have to monitor the 2nd tps and the throttle actuator.

EXPENSIVE PROBLEM

Thanks. I did see that one and saw the move to replace throttle bodies with no resume. I am sure there is no warranty left so I am going to push them To read up on this if they come back with that diagnosis.

Thanks for pointing it out.

I have the initial feedback from the dealer. The error code was not coming up, but in doing diagnostic tests, they discovered the fuel system was in open loop mode. They reloaded the map for the ECM and started it again and it was still in open loop mode. they tried a third time and it was working fie. they took it for a test ride and all good. However, they are going to check with Triumph to see if this is an issue that requires some other work, such as a sensor malfunction.

I will keep you posted on anything I get back. time to search the forum for this issue...

just an off the wall thought and NOT carved into stone.
i would wonder if the o2 sensor was unchecked like some or the tunes would that keep it from going into closed loop. an interesting question for hanso:)
if the temp sensor reading was off that would keep it from going to closed loop.

I was having a hot startup lope, that would correct after revving the engine just a bit. The engine would remain at normal idle thereafter. I did indeed have unchecked O2 sensor, hoping to be a little richer. When I installed the power tripp tune, I re-enabled the O2 sensor and installed a sensor bypass. No more hot start lope, and the tune itself is excellent!
