Side cover blew off...history

I worked out a great deal with the dealer I bought my bike from. I received a set of TORS silencers for FREE! I paid for install and the Triumph tune. $65! They did right be me and I am satisfied.

Now that is a GOOD DEAL! :) Enjoy!

The dealer lied to me again. My speedo went on the blink. Both trip-odometers would zero out and the clock would reset to 1:00 every time I restarted the engine. Covered under warranty. Dealer told me that the part is "backed up" and it's coming from England. Didn't know when it would arrive. He did apologize and he he would call me when it came in. I Happen to go to another dealer that same day in the afternoon. They are noted for performance work and wanted to know more about Dobeck Performance AFR. I also mentioned about the speedo troubles. He goes on his computer and says the speedo is available in Atlanta and he can have one in two days. I don't understand why the first dealer told me this lie. Were they backed up in the service dept.? Only takes an hour to put in a speedometer. I canceled the order and had the second dealer order the part. Should be installed Monday. I will NEVER enter the first dealership again. Four times I was lied to. Four times. Once by the General manager, once by the Service Mgr. once by the parts girl and now again by the Service mgr. Do you think I should report this to Triumph and/or the dealership owner? Or just never do business with them again?

Definitely at least call the owner and let him know his employees suck, unless it's institutionalized "tell the customer whatever you want to pacify them" in that business... Contacting Triumph corporate and letting them know one of their dealers is sucky probably won't hurt either.

Hello Ski, I have gone straight to the folks who wronged me in the past and then to the owner if I didn't get recourse from the offending person. My Dad bought a used 2010 Chevy Aveo in '12; its engine blew a month later and was covered under warranty. No worries, but the transmission went out in another two months followed by the radiator developing a leak. the leak lead to engine failure. Everything was fixed by warranty until the second engine died and my dad was told he would have to pay for it. My dad is elderly and not one to make waves. So I called the service manager and got nowhere. I then called the dealership owner after getting the him-haw about he doesn't take calls, (found his number online) and let him know I had an issue that he could fix. He called me back about 10 minutes later and said they would completely cover my dad's car and they would pick it up that evening. It's fixed and working correctly for six months now.
Bottom line, you're not getting the service you expect and they need to correct it either themselves or from their Boss. Good luck and let us know how it comes out.

There is a new General manager at the dealership I bought my bike from. I spoke to him and he told me That maybe this was a miscommunication. Maybe the service man meant his dept. is backed up or that he didn't look at the computer to see if the part was in stock. He told me he would talk to the service man. He then offered me a free detail on my bike when ever I was in the area. (he's 40 miles away) I like to wash my own bike. I won't be in the area anymore. I am done with Schlossmann Motorcycles of Milwaukee!

This is an old post, but something I have been concerned about after reading several posts. I have thought about some options I plan on trying and these may be some to consider. I would make sure all of those grommets/pins are secure and more importantly clean of any grease or silicone lube. Denatured alcohol works best for degreasing without damaging the parts. The bottom pin on the side covered can be a little tricky to see and easily missed when attaching the side cover. This could account for some issues. I'm planning on lightly scuffing the mounting pins on the covers (they need more bite in the grommets) and using a little Gorilla Snot on the posts and grommets. If you don't know what Gorilla Snot is, it is a tacky substance/paste/gel, used by guitar players to help get a better grip in their picks. Most music stores that carry guitars will have it. If that doesn't work I may clean everything off again and try a very light coating of contact or rubber cement on each but only "ONE" of the pin or grommet surfaces. This may help as well with the grip and still allow for removal. In the spring, when I get my bike out again, I will have a better chance to look for a better fix for this issue. My two cents!

The best fix I could recommend is the one I for one used - I drilled a hole in the rear "stem" on the side panels, threaded a ziptie through those, then put the ziptie around the frame right next to where the rear mount of the side panel goes into the grommet (leaving it loose so you can still take the panel off and lay it flat on the passenger footplate). Works perfectly, and has saved one side panel for me already when the grommet came out.

I also secured the grommets after that incident by putting a wad of silicone in the frame holes and then putting in the grommets and gluing them into place, seems to be holding up great.

Check the accessory fuse. Same thing happened to me when using the heated grips - it was that fuse blowing. I've since removed them and put on ISO grips and warmer gloves.

That's on an '08, so might be different, but it's a very easy check to do.

I went with cr0ft's idea. I figured it was the most foolproof. As far as the speedo and gages, It was the accessory fuse. Two Dealers couldn't find the problem.

I know this was an "old" thread, but, just wanted to post up that on my brand spankin new 2015 R3T, the right side cover blew off and went flying down the road on the ride home. I actually saw the thing whip past in the rear-view and pulled over and walked all the way back to where it had landed and picked it up. It's scratched from bouncing off the highway but not broken up. I got it back on the bike (no grommets missing/twisted/etc) and got home.

When i got it home, I wrapped a bunch of turns of teflon tape (to simply increase the diameter of the posts) and then mushed it back on. It was a much much more secure fit, but, after reading this thread, I'll be going back and doing a little drill/zip-tie job myself.

I'll be bringing this up with the dealer when I take it in for it's first service this saturday.

I find it a little annoying that on a new bike like this, I have to be worried about sh$t flying off of it when I leave the showroom floor.
