Rode a Victory Cross Country this afternoon...

Hold up a minute. Victory's did have a overhead cam. No push-rods. Very effective engine and with a bit of work very fast. Unlike the Indian engine, Why the bike never got the attention it should have is beyond me.

No advertising to speak of still a lot of people never heard of victory

Just been kicking the idea of getting a Indian Roadmaster around in my head. Like if I would get another bike what would it be type deal. The Indians are following down the same road as the Harley.... from my interpretation of what I've been hearing from my fellow riding buddies. The bike isn't worth that type of money another words and anything like dealership maintenance, parts, merchandise is very expensive.

I realize the Roadmaster isn't any comparison far as power and torque like the Roadster but it has all the luxuries you could ask for.

Another words I could get different type bike with some of the luxuries and have better handling, power, torque and still have a wad of cash left in my pocket.

If a full dresser is what you're considering; there's only a few to choose from.
HD isn't any more affordable than Indian. The new Yammy looks nice but it's 1st yr production and not cheap either.
Vics are nice but you're going to have to recoup all the value in miles ridden (not necessarily a bad thing).
The Kaw Voyager is a budget bike with Japanese reliability.

I really liked how the Indian fit, I like it's looks and pricing in the used market isn't too bad.

I knew someone was going to mention the not-a-cruiser diavel. Great bike, not a cruiser, but a great bike all the same.

A few years back a friend of mine had a Ducati. When it came around time to check the valve clearance he called and asked for my help. After looking at the manual for the bike was really surprised at the first step. REMOVE ENGINE FROM BIKE.

I traded my R3t for a victory crossroad bout 5 years ago
Of course miss the power that the rocket had but the crossroad is a good bike I have over 97000 miles on it and the only problem I have had with it is my clutch cable broke last Friday but like Jim when I get a couple more bills paid off I may start looking for another rocket or may wait and see what the 18 model looks like

I think it is fair to say that nothing really is in the same category as a Triumph Rocket. So making any comparisons to Victory and Indian and H-D really doesn't make any sense. I too am looking for a good touring bike with a full fairing locking bags and tour pack. I rode an Indian in Vegas last Year and liked it, didn't love it. the power is OK but not really good enough. Same with the Victory and H-D. But I may be biased due to my Roadster. I have been considering buying another Valkyrie Interstate as I have had two in the past. I loved both of them. But... I really want fuel injection and some of the new technology. Enter the New Yamaha Star Venture. WOW. I haven't seen one in person yet but it looks exactly like the bike I am looking for. I think they arrive in dealers this week. Its not cheap and its heavy but it is a modern day touring bike with all the bells and whistles. And its a Yamaha so the power and dependability will be there. I am not expecting Rocket power but it will more than likely be Yamaha power.

I was really disappointed to see that the new Yamaha will not be built on a derivative of the V-Max 1700 motor. THAT would have been a great touring rig, carrying on the tradition of the old Venture Royale. Instead they choose to play in the air-cooled V-twin game. It's going to be interesting to see what the 2018 (ish) Rocket has to offer. At the moment I'm considering a new set of hard bags, MC cruise control and a new seat for my R3R to make it more touring friendly, instead of a dedicated touring bike. From what my dealer is saying the new R3 will have throttle by wire, with CC, TC and rider modes. Hopefully they offer nice factory hard bags.
