Rockets Across America III

I must have gotten lucky

RS...... Looks like you found a nice place to get some "grub". They will make room for us in the general dining area. They have private rooms but wanted to charge a fee for their use. Nah.....we'll mingle with the local yokels!

The lady that owns the place I was going to suggest ..... turns out she's a member of the board for the Chamber of Commerce. When I talked to them today they said she was quite ill so I'm glad you had found Forest Hill.

As to breakfast on Saturday morning, I have a few places in mind. Since we weren't meeting until 10:00 am, I figured those breakfast people would be done and gone by then. As to getting everybody lined up and organized (that'll be the day) for the ride, here's what I got from my contact at the C of C:

There's a closed restaurant with a good sized parking lot next door to the Comfort Inn on 196 E. Van Buren (past the 23/62 split). It should provide a good staging area for the trip. It's right on the road we'll be taking south to Ozark.

Yokels sound good. From what I remember from the menu the prices where ok, too.

parking lot in-route sounds great also.

And yep you are nominated and no you can't vote against yourself. :D

Pianoman, If you create a new single-post thread for the Itinerary. I will create a link to it that everyone can see. All you would need to do is just edit the same post as Itinerary updates happen.

I know the time is getting close

I put on my ugly Chinese " long trip only" highway pegs today. (I had to re tap every thread because they were all galled.) What ever happened to to good old Third World sweat shop quality. Next thing you know there will be some kind of problem with the paint they are using. I also dug out my sheep skin seat cover, soft bags, windshield, and made sure the rain suit still fits. You guys who ride the semi/full dressers have no idea what us naked riders have to go through to get on the road. I am going to be out for awhile on this one and there is only so much you can bungee on. I may be dressing border crossing style, jeans and shirts in layers, but **** I am looking forward to the trip.

Ya know - when you pay an 8 year old a whole 50 cents a day, you would certainly expect better quality than that! Hopefully the recognized his lack of work ethic and forced him to be a gymnist the rest of his life! :)

Come on George....Be like me last year. Hit the Wally World and get a new wardrobe. Put the soiled crap in the Salvation Army clothes deposit......underwear priveleged folks need your old clothes.

Trave light but travel right.

Likie my buddy that went to Alaska (I rode with him today)...short trip, 400 miles....nice afternoon jaunt...No, I didn't take the Rock. Part of the trip was off road, like through creeks, through the woods, you know, stuff unbecoming to the Rocket....not enough ground clearance. Somehow, I can't see fording a creek with the Rocket, you can't get a tow truck to extracate it. Besides, it's off road manners, even on a dirt road, leave a lot to be desiored.

6 weeks on the road, one night in a motel (ONE NIGHT). Took 8 pair of undies. Wear 'em outside in, inside out, not at all and finally to the laundromat. 15,000 plus miles, as far north as you can go. The guy has a butt made from cast iron and a very understanding wife.

He want's me to ride to South America with him next year, from here to Peru or some such place. I'd take the Rock but somehow I don't think the Rock would like Pemex gas. You can piss in the tank on the KLR and it runs just fine.......it's getting a tad over 60 now. Not 60 per, 60 to the gallon of the cheap crap. It likes the cheap gas. It's a cheap bike.

You know, I'd go in the peg business (I just made some really nice handlebar risers for a VTX), but I can't compete with a sweatshop the likes of Kuryakin or however you spell it. Quality Peoples Republic of China stuff. I'm not even gonna try.

Britman, at least your legs are long enough for those highway pegs. I bought some then had them taken off. I felt like I was having my yearly female exam with differant kind of stirrups. My legs are so short the only place I could put them was near the very top of the crash guard.
Perhaps you should get you some Leather Like bags? Mine hold so much stuff I use my bike to go to Wally World all of the time. Even adding a trip to the mall sometimes.
And obvious you don't live in TX cause you would have the windshield on all of the time. Protects you from a lot of those hard shell bugs that when they hit you they live bruises and all kinds of colors of guts all over you. See you aren't so bad off...you can use highway pegs and you can ride without windshield.
