No problems since Carpenter undercut my gears
Hey mate, any idea how much taper or undercut they put on them? Never undercut the dogs on a box of this size so I have no idea how much would be ideal.

Sounds like you and I have had similar issues Sam...I had a circlip wander down the output shaft and the box tried to be in 3rd 4th and 5th all at once. I've got the box back together but i'm a little while away from getting back on the road - and now I'm nervous!

Also, is it weird for 2 blokes to publish that they've had similar problems with a tranny?

Good luck with round 2 rebuild
This is consistent with my findings last time and I shall be possibly changing the whole output shaft this time also. I'll measure the old one as the depth of the snap ring groove seemed too shallow for my liking.... I'm a fitter machinist by trade but gearboxes aren't my forte' it seems.

I don't know if it was mentioned, but important that the circlip is installed with the sharp side away from the side applying pressure, that's why Carpenter thinks they fail, Triumph seems to install them randomly, when punch comes down to stamp them out, top gets rounded and bottom cuts off sharp.

From memory @warp9.9 instructed me to ensure these were orientated this way last build. It seems to be consistent for most gearbox builds.

No, You should talk to Bob Carpenter, he did everything, he has some billet 4th gears he had made I told him gimme one a those, too. Seems pretty bullet proof, I hammer mine pretty hard.

All taken on board, seems the course of action is laid out for me :)
