HI,

I've negotiated funding authorization from my household's C.F.O. for a new bike, and am looking for a Rocket. Most likely a Roadster, but wouldn't rule out a screaming deal on a Touring. I've been riding since 1985, have had a wide variety of sport and sport-touring bikes, currently an Aprilia Caponord adventure tourer. The Ape is a nice bike, but I've found the whole "ADV" thing wanting. Most big ADV bikes are slow relevant to comparable sport tourers, but too big and heavy off road to be good trail bikes. Besides, 'adventure' is a state of mind, several people have gone around the world on 900lb Harleys anyway! I want something more solid on the highway, and comfortable for Mrs. Marky.

I'll be poking around here for advice on setup and accessories, and also to learn the various quirks of the RIII as well. I don't do engine internals, but do quite a bit of minor maintenance. I've done a lot of upgrades/fixes on the Aprilia, generally a solid bike, but the electrics can be dodgy. I'm looking for a either a "new leftover", or a sub-10k mile used Rocket.

Anyway, I look forward to learning here.

Cheers!
I keep thinking my 06 will be out of the shop any minute and it keeps having to stay for "other stuff". Anyway, when it is out (hopefully this week) I would consider parting with my 2011. It has just over 10K.

It's been a frustrating few weeks - two decent deals on low mile Rocket Classics that I 'just missed', and then the market dried up . I'm having a really hard time finding anything that either has more miles than I want, or is $1000 over book retail. Thankully it's raining , so at least I'm not missing out on great riding weather yet....

Marky,

Do not despair. I was in the same boat when I was shopping for my first. I missed out the last minute on one I really wanted but I would have had to fly to Michigan to get it. The very next day I found the perfect fit only 100 miles away.

That was 5 years ago. Rockets are a lot more prevalent now. Bide your time and you will get what you want. I would have been pissed had I gone to MI only to have found the other so much closer.

hang in there tiger!

Ok! She's on the way! Maroon 07 w/12k miles, new tires, looks perfect. Can't wait! Stand by while I ask a lot of questions here about accessories and setup.

I'd worry that an 06 with 20k or an 07 with 12k would be thoroughly pissed at the amount of neglect they'd been shown and would promptly refuse to run. Takes at least 30k to break in one of these things.

Did you buy from a local dealer or someone local and private? Or did you find a better deal elsewhere?

In any event - CONGRATULATIONS. I'm next town to the West (Parkland - Broward county), and I'd like to get a chance to meet and have a look at it.

Congrats. It took me a few months to find mine. Eventually went to a dealer to buy a new one and they had an 08 Standard with low miles for $8500. I came home with it and have never looked back.
