Rocket Crash...

Some people just shouldn't be riding Rockets. Hopefully this bloke will realise what a goose he was to get on one before he was ready. He was bloody lucky.

Walk away .. you ridden a 1050 Speed Triple have you ??

I remember following that Speedy down the hill near Cradle Mountain. Thought I was doing well keeping on his tail - and then he gunned it.... The only reason we stayed close to him was because he wanted us to.

M/C tire. Most likely a Metzler. Another classic rear brake highside from the, imho, the safety hazard called Metzler.

Several things the rider did that he could have changed.

  1. Dragon Rule #1: STAY ON YOUR F*N SIDE OF THE ROAD!! (referencing the Dragon even though this rider was on the Hellbender 28 heading towards Fontana.)
  2. Dragon Rule #2: Move over and let the squids go by.
  3. His lean angle was instinctive but just the opposite of what it should be. I was told to put your chin over the grip to the inside of the turn. Makes a huge difference.
  4. Hard to tell but he seems to favor the rear brake somewhat. Not good technique.
It's easy to sit here and play Monday morning QB with this as I'm sure that most of us have had serious pucker moments just this side of what this guy experienced. Hate to see him go down but the rest of us can benefit from his misfortune.

After reviewing Mr. Brinson's youtube channel, the Speed Triple is friends with the Rocket rider and is their camera platform. Several videos of them together. My comment #2 above doesn't apply to this situation.

How was it determined the camera bike was a speed triple? I take someone knows him? I only saw a yellow fender, sounds like a triumph though.

Ahh, thanks. Regardless, poor guy was above his skill level, or maybe it just wasn't his day.

I agree ,particularly with #3 another tip I tell anyone who hasn't been a pillion rider is to just look over the shoulder of the rider on the side the bike is turning that way they don't try to keep the bike upright as you take a corner, always works for me ,by the way I am a terrified pillion myself and avoid it like the plague.
