Rocket 3R trying to START ITSELF !!

After having time to think about this if u where my customer i would replace the starter relay and the starter then take both apart very careful and see what is in there to cause a problem.
Extra washer, small screw, peice of wire, piece of solder, ect
In the electrical it would have to b
a hot wire shorted to the starter solenoid. I dont know about the relay if it has battery voltage (like i change mine) or ignition which would be off if there was a prob.
I would have relay and starter changed if i had to pay for them my self and run a new starter relay wire.

Hi all, I had my brand new Rocket 3R for 6 days and done 270 miles. I’ve had the usual KEY FOB OUT OF RANGE issue. Dealer said “never heard of that before mate”
It has CUT OUT on me at low speed coming up to a junction.
Dealer says “ there’s no fault codes on it. It’s not as complex as a car ecu mate”
Then MAJOR FAULT- I got caught in a light shower (should be able to do this in the Uk) The bike tried to START ITSELF. Key fob in the house and turned off. Bike turned off with kill switch in the off position, clutch not pulled in. No lights , dash, anything.
It made a noise, when I returned to see what was happening, it did it again, obvious to me it was throwing the starter motor in for a split second. Then I started to video it. It did it for a third time, then to my amazement it pulled the starter motor in and turned the engine over for about 30 seconds. It stopped for a few seconds, then pulled in again and the starter was turning the engine over until I got my spanners out and disconnected the battery. After retrying to connect the battery the starter was engaging, it kept doing this for about 4 hours. Until it dried out.
After that time I could have the battery connected without a problem, the ignition / clocks ect would come on, kill switch on, fuel pump up to pressure ok, and run as normal. It was working normally when the dealer picked it up.
They’re telling me that the starter solenoid was stuck in. ??
I honestly can’t believe this, as it would have been turning the engine over constantly, not intermittently, and how the F did it do this when the bike was parked up, turned off, with the keys in the house.
I’ve emailed Triumph UK, but not heard anything back.
Dealer is also saying it’ll be over a week, because Triumph UK haven’t got any starter solenoids in stock?
I have Video evidence of all if this.
Wish I’d read all these forums before buying. I’M GUTTED 😞
Also have way too much oil in mine too, well over the MAX line.
Alas the common thread of Triumph Taiwan ( UK ) there still using covid as the reason for no electronic parts, what bollocks. My R is back at dealer needs new ecu to code keys, there is a fundamental issue with the software, Triumph are not playing fair with owners. In selling mine as soon as it's fixed.

Please allow me a question:

How can this happen?

- Kill Switch in Position
- Clutch not in Position

Don't get me wrong - but as long as I have not seen the Video, this is still just a story for me... let's see if someone can verify the wiring if it this would at least be possible at all...

Note: after verifying the circuits, I would confirm that a completely water filled Solenoid can move the Starter... interesting wiring...

I’ve since heard back from Triumph UK and the dealership, after chasing them with emails. They have said after further investigation they have discovered a crack in the starter relay case and this would have let in water, then engaged the starter motor. They are going to replace both. Not good from a quality control point point of view. Hopefully this will have it fixed, and they’re not just bullsh*#+?ing me, and saying this to make me go away.

Good old Taiwanese quality control.
Alas not got a lot of confidence in Triumph these days. You'll be lucky if they have any spare parts. No delivery date for my Smart key ?

Certainly nothing against the wonderful peeps in Thailand but Triumph located there for a reason and that was very cheap labor, low business taxes and it appears a problem with quality control. You get what you pay for Triumph but I'm certain they already knew this.
It’s such a shame that the savings aren’t passed onto the customers. At over £21,000 you wouldn’t expect this level of low quality. I’ve been fobbed off with the key fob out of range issue, and no explanation of the bike cutting out on me. These are obvious issues as discussed elsewhere on this site. Other owners are returning or selling their bikes. How long before Triumph go out of business?

I spoke with Pektron, they developed the system for Triumph, Im not sure Triumph have advised them of the issues. Nevervthe less both Triumph and Pektron have not done anything to resolve lack of parts or electronics to service the lack of spares.
Triumph are selling bikes they cannot repair or service in an honest time line.
