Roadster transmission problems sorted.... My a***!


Hello mate- well after a 2.5k quote from triumph and an actual bill from a trusted independent of £1700 the bike is fixed!!! My worst fears realised. The gears, selector and dogs badly worn after 13000 miles. I chose an independent (actually Ducati specialist) for obvious reasons! Triumph were very guarded and I overheard the dealer on the phone saying "yes it is a 2011" and he later said that it was a very powerful motor for a motorcycle gearbox to handle! Not at all impressed especially as the specialist said the gearbox was made of cheese!

No support from Triumph at all and I guess this is not surprising given they seem to be living in denial.

All I ask is that they pull the wheelie ad from you tube so more people are suckered into believing the maddest bike on the market is faintly fit for purpose. Ducati Diavel here I come! A bike that CAN live up to expectation!! Anyone want buy a rocket 3 - totally sorted gearbox with updated internals? Old bits available for inspection!
 
WELL thats a very poor report sounds like another BS story as I was saying we are running 500 HP through a stock gearbox and a 137 Dyno runs and no problems so someones pulling your leg
 
How many miles

I believe it was opened up around the 17,000 mile mark. It started when some forum members was having spline issues. So the next up coming tire change I decided I better check to see what's going on with the bikes splines. Sent warp9 some pictures of it and he said they looked fine. Most of the blue grease was in the bottom of the axle housing but still had a liberal amount on the splines. Cleaned and reapplied antisieze grease. Just got done with another tire change and the splines still look good.
 
I am running 21,000 miles on a ROCKET X in one years time. Completely stock but do push it very hard. Lack of common sense and maturity on my part. As posted before fixing up the Harley a bit and have spent six days working and cleaning it up a bit. When I'm done with the Harley the Rocket is next for the 20,000 mile tune up. No problems at all with the Rocket. Matter of fact one of the best running bikes I have ever owned. A lot of folks on here have posted problems on their bikes and I keep up on it but to date have not had one single issue with the ROCKET X at all. Very please with the bike. Sorry to hear about your misfortune.
 
Glad it's fixed Dr G. Do realize, the grass is NOT greener on the other side in this case. All of the Rocket segment bikes from other brands have their own share of reliability issues, well documented, some much more costly to fix (and none are as fast as an intake/exhaust/tune rocket 3).

I've heard the same "lot of power for a gear box" comment. Problem with that is, Triumph knew it had to cope with a lot of power, and contracted it out to be designed. Then there's the countless bikes making way more than stock power that have no transmission issues, some after many 10s of thousands of miles even. When assembled correctly, they are quite bullet proof, it's just, some of us got delivered bikes that weren't assembled correctly
 
THE fact is if you make mistakes with any piece of machinery you will damage it and I doubt TRIUMPH would put up with poor assembly issues but it does happen with all makes and models of cars, trucks , motorcycles everything produced on the planet. But we have been racing modded Rockets making 500 HP with stock drivelines and clutches with just stronger clutch springs and they hold up great it amazed us that they are so rugged so a stock bike should be a super reliable ultra long lasting ride
 
The splines will last forever if lubed correctly
