Roadster Hardbag Options

I put the edge/ghost brackets on, they are universal brackets, so you have to adjust them to get them to lock on the pins provided. One side went on perfect, the other had more play than I liked, and I couldn't adjust the slack out. Went with the edge 103XL bags, the bags mount onto the roundhead bolts in the brackets, so they are not flat against the brackets. Because the bags are wide I put a supporting bracket under each bag - weightiest item was a small laptop and in less than 12 months the stiching has pulled apart on the corners of both bags. I would get leather in preference to edge TEK. The bags look good (similar to OEM and big)....And when I emailed edge I got no response
 

Where was the slack?

Did the brackets ever rattle or clunk on the pins while riding?
 
Kotho1 - the slack is because the brackets are slotted on an angle and the pin needs to be hard up against it. Not that much slack that it is noticeable when you ride (not that I could hear it anyway) - but if you grab hold of the bag you can move it around and it "rattles" - even tho the bags are locked in with the key mechanism. A bit of movement at the bracket equates to a lot more with the bag. I can email you pics if you are considering buying them.

Since I found out the Edge brackets can hold 25 lbs, I now am considering bolting 40 liter Givi hardshell bags to them. I like bags that open like a suitcase versus top loading and the Givi bags are lockable, weather proof, and very durable. I'm not that concerned with looks because they will only be on when I make long trips.
 
I've seen the new Givi Trekker hard cases at the NEC and they might be just the job for me -later this year. They open at the top or you can open the whole side too - handy. Although they're silver and black, some matt black would soon tidy that up-or you might like the silver! I think they would suit the Roadster - a bit tougher than the rest!

The back is flat enough to suit the Easybrackets too. If they get a bit slack and rattle, as they will I guess eventually, just get some 5thou shim steel washers and you'll be fine. Extra weight in them will just help stop them rattling.
- anyway they'll never fall off

I just bought a set of Hepco Becker hard bags. I haven't mounted them yet but they look great and are top quality. They are the only maker I found besides Corbin that makes a mounting rack specifically for the R3.
 
If you're able to modify a bit here and there.

Tale a look at the SW-MOTECH Quicklock side frames. These are basically a plate - and you can then get adapter kits that allow you to mount many other panniers. H&B/GIVI etc etc.

Would be great for going on a big tour though...


Would be interesting to see if any of the hardcases from Hepco Becker would fit in the same way with those easy brackets, they look much more the part to me!
