Bugger me.. went to jump on the bike today and noticed that rust spots are appearing on my powder coated Reband exhaust. Is this common?

I thought that the coating should seal the steel away from all the nasty air & moisture.

I hate winter...

ive written a fair bit about this issue.

its the only known issue and i think you must let Ric know. He probably thinks im the only one who has had them redone properly

I've had a few fun cars. The last one being a 2006 GTO (beautiful car- made in OZ) with about 20k in mods. Anyway, one of the first things I purchased was a quality set of stainless long tube headers that were ceramic coated inside and out by Jet Hot. These headers were amazing and looked incredible. They had a soft chrome look and I could run multiple passes at the 1/4 mile strip, open the hood and place my hand comfortably within an inch of the headers without any heat issues. If I remember correctly I had the 'diamond' Jet Hot coating appied.

Nothing against Reband - they're systems look great and from what I've read perform better than they look, but a stainless exhaust with high quality ceramic coating for our Rockets would sure be something.

I got in touch with Ric and he gave me a price of $1700 for the ceramic coated exhaust plus $260 for shipping to the states. I just about fell over.

I have heard BAD stories about Jardines coating as well. From what I've gathered in my honest opinion is better to buy raw or chrome exhaust and THEN have them ceramic coated. This will let you decide on who is going to coat the exhaust and therefore whoever does it will do a better job because that's what they do for a living. And if you do have problems you can take them back to the local shop or ship the exhaust back to them. If local you will have a faster turn around time and be able to discuss the problem face to face. Exhaust companies are not going to be happy to deal with coating problems especially after they got your money in the bank.

Heck I would like to just have a header that will mount to my cat box bypass (straight through pipe) and TORS mufflers. The biggest improvement in exhaust systems is a good flowing header rather than a manifold.

Jardine chrome sucks moosecock, mine were rusty all over in 6 months.

EEEEEEEEEWWWWWWWWWWWWW!

I think not sure but Jardine is in a rude awakening. They have sucky customer service and their product is really not worth the money. A fellow Rocketeer had weld wire hanging off his exhaust when he got it from Jardine.

I'll send Ric an email letting him know.

Very disappointing, It's gonna cost me a fair bit to get coated again. I might pop down to Repco to see if they have any DIY options.

I recently got a full (Carpenter) system chrome-ceramiced in and out in Sydney for $275......

I Think Noresman had an issue as well with the ceramic coating.

Preparation is what dictates a good or bad ceramic coating. The finish colour is just a thin colour coat .. it's the coating underneath that's important. Like Mully said may be better to get them bare metal and have them coated locally. That way you can demand they rectify any problems. Lots of ceramic coaters around these days , just got to do your homework.
