I understood it as being lost on THIS tire change and being a brand new spacer used for the first time. If this spacer has been used to mount previous tires and fit ok, then I agree with Hanso.

thanks for your in depth advice here is what happened originally .
the original spacer was "lost" by the dealership when they replaced the tire this winter ( I had it taped to the hub but did not measure it ) and never found anywhere on the shop's floor so I ordered another one from that dealer (blackfoot motorcycle in calgary)I asked for a wheel spacer for 2006 standard ( in fact there are two spacers one in the middle of the hub and one on the brake side. sure enough they ordered the long one first)
after reordering , the spacer I received is was 3 cm long actually 2.948cms and the pages about triumph OEM parts which DRM 421 posted yesterday shows various spacers with different length one 2.948cms and one 2.50cms both listed for the 2006 standard model one presumably for ABS one for regular brakes ( I am still confused about ABS as I never saw the system on a 2006, nevertheless the 2.5 spacer would fit perfectly as I measured the gap between the swingarm and the wheel edge at the hub at 4cms. that's the exact space required by the brake mount plus a 2.5 spacer and the half millimeter gap left when all is mounted presumably to be torqued as I have checked my wheel mounting several times went as far as going to the shop and measuring the distance between the left wheel lip and the drive cover on a new machine on the sales floor found it to be the same as mine I did everything every one mentioned on this forum went as far as inserting a tube on the spline and torquing it tight to make sure the wheel would seat all the way (thanks for the idea , cannot remember the name of the captain sorry oops!! thanks UGARTE) spent three days trying everything checked the circlips, rubber O ring bushing and middle spacer inside the wheel hub everything looked fine centered greased and not moving from side to side the circlips were tight in their grooves so by elimination I believe the spacer I received is the wrong size I mean nearly half a centimeter too long is not just an adjustment mishap tuesday I will go back to the shop and show them the part number for that 2.5 cms spacer and order it .
I really believe it will take care of my problem, my mistake was to have undiluted faith in the dealer's search for the right part originally and not questioning the accuracy of their search.

Wrong spacer!!!!!!! You never said the spacer hadn't been on the bike. Even when it was suggested the spacer was the wrong size you insisted it was correct and were going to shave some metal off you brake mount. If a new, never used spacer (or any part for that matter) won't fit then of course it's the wrong size. Doh! Phew, glad that's sorted.

sorry for the misunderstanding I insisted because triumph dealer said it was the right spacer when we received it and the mechanics said same that is why now I will always double check before getting frustrated. imagine a dealer not doing the job of getting the right part when you ask specifically for a certain part and you get one not quite right !!!

funny you should mention the Dealer ordering the wrong part, a while back I was ordering a part from my dealer and the the Triumph Australia had the parts (larger header clutch lifter piece) arse about face.
I actually having the part # thanks to Scott having posted it queried which part number he was ordering and pointed out that the one he had listed in front of him was wrong!! so go figure, while the bikes basically did not change much over time there have been small improvement but obviously not been cataloged properly

What I did was cut a metal tube slightly smaller than the width of the brake fitting that goes between the spacer and the swing arm, then put the axle through the wheel, the spacer, and the tube and then through the swingarm, and then put the nut on and torqued it down a bit. That compressed the wheel fully into the bevel box splines and after doing that the brake would fit just right.

you know I did exactly the same thing made a piece of plywood that fit between the spacer and the swingarm torqued the flanged nut on the spindle outside the swingarm hoped it would somehow push the whole assembly inside the wheel hub further left enough so I could slide the brake mount where I had the plywood but nothing moved and when i confronted the dealer parts manager they have no answer so next wednesday they pick up the bike and maybe they can figure out what is going on thanks anyway for the suggestion it was a good one for the

Well it was worth trying to remove all doubt about the spacer. It always worked for me but then I was dealing with the original spacer. It will be interesting to see what the dealer comes up with. I have had the Rocket for 9 years and never heard of this problem until now, you are pioneering new territory.

I wish I did not have to!!got mine 5 years ago and rode all the alpines passes in 2010 that count for at least 5 more years of ownership aha got you beat..
