Anybody any idea of rear tyre mileage on the R3 Touring, need to plan a change on a long trip.

If it is a Mettzler, I'd worry if you already had a couple of thousand on it. I just changed mine and only have 3k miles on the new tire. It is already a concern before I go to Maggie Valley in May. I'm going the darkside by replacing it when I put it in the shop for Nev cams. Mezzlers are crap for the price they charge.

The R3T has a Bridgestone tire. It has caused problems for a number of people. Mine was shot at 5000 miles and was causing handling problems. There have been reports of the rear tire separating internally and failing.
If you have anywhere near 4000 miles I wouldn't trust it on a trip. I've had good luck with the Avon Cobra as a replacement.

How do you guys ride? I have 4900 miles on the OEM tires and all is fine. That said, I just saw another thread where someone was posting there is a recall on the Bridgestones. I hope I get contacted soon if that's the case because I'm planning on making the trek to Maggie Vally in May.
I had cord showing 2/3 the way around on either side of the center of the tread and the center of the tread was gone as well. (at 4200 miles)
What are the roads like in Florida?? I know that our roads are quite abrasive. Mix that with the heat (which you also have) and freeway speeds and tires seem to wear pretty fast here.
I will occasionally use the power available but no burn outs, and very few jack rabbit starts. Mostly just normal riding at 65-85. I also don't wait to see the cords before replacing a tire. The Bridgestone probably had another 1000 miles on it going by tread depth, but at low speeds it was wobbling like a drunk on Bourbon Street.
I did notice that on a 1500 mile trip just before I replaced the tires, that the tread depth was going away much faster than earlier in the tires life. So, you might want to keep a closer eye on them as your mileage increases.

Most of the roads around here are pretty good and don't appear to be very abrasive. They a fairly good job of staying on top of re-paving the main roads and the country roads just don't have that much traffic so they stay pretty good. Apparently, I won't have to worry about how much more life my tires have as it appears Triumph is going to be replacing them free of charge.
FTR - I do the same as you. I replace when they get down to the wear bar. But again, I'm at almost 5000 right now and I have a lot of tread left on my tires.
Note: I got almost 15k out of my rear on my old Heritage Softail and the front tire on that bike had 28k when I traded it and it still had some life. I think weight has a little to do with it too. I weigh 150 if you pour a couple of gallons of water on me and rarely ride 2-up, but even then the combined weight is around 275.

Thanks guys, am setting off from uk to st tropez france early june with about 4000 on the clock so i think i'll order up a tire in the s of france for fit down there at 5000. I'll probably stick to the Bridgestones but my Milwaukee iron always runs better on Avons so I'll see. If i see any nice open air shots i'll post pictures after the trip.
