Rear spindle hex size

Hey all, new member and first post. Been reading the forum for a while though.

I've checked the service manual but it doesn't state (that I've seen) the allen/hex bit size required to remove the spindle/axle from the rear wheel.

Does anyon know this off the top of their head?

I'm planning to remove the wheels and wet and dry them and then get them polished up. They're a bit sorry looking after all the salt and crap from the delightul Scottish winter!

I think it is a 14 mm....

I don't know what the big allen fits on the Rocket....but it does not fit the rear axle bolt

It is 14mm. I just reinstalled my rear wheel a couple of minutes ago

Can't believe Triumph didn't supply this hex wrench in the puny tool kit.
Way more important than most of the other crap. Made one from an old bolt and a few nuts - no problema.

I have never had a shaftie (motorcycle that is) and I want to drop the housing thingo to moly 60 the shaft. Do I need to pre-drain it or just top it off after reassembly? Only 7K on the new R3R.

Last question: I need a better way to jack and support this when I remove both wheels. Any suggestions where the best place(s) to support with a jack? Heh heh heh first motor with no frame around the engine as well.

Any pointers appreciated . . .

just done mine you don't have to touch the oil in the final drive.

I have the same issues with the Rocket....My M/C jack is not that great I have ro rigg the jack with wood blocks ...just to get the rear tire off...Not very safe either

I am think I am going to look at a engine lift and 3 nylon slings

i change the gear lube in the drive everytime the rear wheel comes off.

The first time I changed mine at 5200 miles, I was suprised how bad the lube looked.

It has been much cleaner everytime since. It could be just due to the break in process.

THE FRONT axle is a 3/4 same as 19 mm i used a 9/16 on the rear it is a bit bigger than 14mm. i to welded bolts and nuts together. might be a little safer to it one wheel at a time. i have an over head beam that i use seems to work ok.
