Ramair filter arrived...

The first filter design I had made by ITG had a power capacity of 300bhp according to their estimation. It also allowed retention of the stock coolant header tank but not a stock bearclaw (below). I'm sure ITG would make more if asked.

I now have it back in the UK and will be trying it at the first opportunity to see if it runs any quieter than the Ramiar - I think unlikely that it will but you don't know until you try.

Art, if you wanted to try it out it could be sent over to you but I would want it back.

You'd need to be fair and run it against an un-claw'd RAMAIR - A fair bet it will make WHOP WHOP sounds. Maybe the Halibut slap. Doubt it'll chirp. Technical chat this eh?!

That looks like a Pipercross filter, and it's rated at 300 hp also.
ITG, PIPERCROSS and RAMAIR all use pretty much the same filtration technology. If I was forced to choose - I'd give preference to ITG's foam. I've used filters now from all three - NOT all on an R3. RAMAIR offers a serious price advantage - and so far has not let me down - I use their filter medium in my Land Rover as well.

Ideally I'd run a pre-filter screen of Stainless in dusty environments - hard to do on a bike where space is at a premium. i.e http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/STAINLESS...arts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item460c3ba4b5

I say again - PRE-FILTER - I have something similar from a different mfr. Keeps larger lumps off crud away from the real filter.

I think they do.
Well done that man - Close up and model details required, please! - Looks like one side of a Porsche 911 kit. Air Temp sensor inside? - You're not getting away with just a long range shot - no sir, you're not!.

I'd have thought that with the filter correctly oiled it'd make a mess of your knee though - I'd wear the foam fast too - as I grip the tank with my knees in the twisties.

I was wrong. After looking again, it's a 290hp filter, part number C504D. It does need a backing plate made for it. I used the stock velocity stacks from the air box.
I didn't mount the air temp sensor inside, but Warp 9.9 drilled a hole and mounted his sensor inside.

I didn't like my knee being against the filter either, plus I didn't like the look without the bearclaw. So I moved the water bottle, shifted the filter forward, and trimmed the claw to fit.

I originally looked at the C504D and spoke to Warp about it, he mentioned about the knee problem and that was when I decided to get a special from ITG. Its shorter and narrower than the Pipercross and would allow keeping the tank and fitting a bearclaw modified like you have done.

Mind you the Pipercross is a cheaper than the ITG, but that is to be expected as its not a special.

Well it's fitted for now. I'm still waiting to hear from Wayne Tripp about the backing plate with the velocity stacks he developed for the Pipercross filter, and the air scoop.
