came back from a long ride today and noticed my cap was ready to fall out, i didn't realize this was a common problem, i tried refitting it,for about 10 minutes but no luck, i notice someone has put up a picture of how it should look when fitted so I'll give that a try. i wasn't wanting to force it as it looks like something you would get out of a lucky bag!

And it's £55.00 of your hard earned to replace...🤪

My cap was very flemsy and it got bent
I just took pliers an it did not take much force to bend it back.
On mine u put it on and turn it a little
and that is at the safety lock
for the actual final lock u have to push down hard and it turns hard to the stop
A lot of people know this when it is tight and u try to take it off it go to a release mod/safty and the cap will not blow off and scald you.
A little story in the sixty's i worked at a service station on route 66 in oklahoma city (gas 18 cents a gallon)
Being immature people would come in with a hot motor and say check the radiator. I would pop the cap past the firt lock and see how high the cap and water would fly

i just noticed that there are arrows to show you how to fit the cap

BUT it still doesn't fit right!

the problem seems to be the plastic insert, you can fit the notch in one of the metal bits but then the other one will not fit, i removed the plastic insert and it looks perfect but it does not fit on both metal parts. I'll phone the dealer and see what he says

When I was at the dealer some time back, I took cap off of r3 on showroom. Couldn't get it back on, asked guy in parts to do it. Said there is a method but tricky. He did it but could not tell how. 😖I assumed I will figure it out later.

It's more luck / chance to get the bugger on. Don't be heavy handed and it seems to locate, but try to line up - and your stuffed. Really silly, cheap fixing ( in my opinion)

It would have been so much easier to fit a thread on both parts to screw it on...very bad design as lots of people seem to be having problems..including me!!!!!

The radiator cap on my rocket has a flat head negative screw/bolt from factory.

So I guess all of you R3 owners who have lost their caps are "Muppets". Has to be true because it says so in the manual and the manual is always right... :)

Glad I own an R111...

PS... what's a muppet?
