Second day Lewiston to Baker City, 200 miles, 4 hours. Going on into Hell's Canyon Dam and back to Baker City would add another 4+ hours and 180 miles. The problem is hotels in that area, as in very few. Feel free to go play with the map.

Back home via good roads. Baker City to Medical Lake, 5 hours, 269 miles.

Day 1, Medical Lake to Lewiston ID 4+ hours 202 miles

Day2, Lewiston ID to Baker City OR, Hells Canyon Dam, overnight back in Baker City 8+ hours 380 miles.

Day 3, Baker City back to Medical Lake WA 5 hours, 270 miles.

I've ridden extensively in this area over the years. The road from Baker City to Hells Canyon Dam is an excellent ride. There is a very good motel in Richland, Oregon that would work for you to shorten this days ride you're talking about. Richland has a good bar, good restaurant and clean inexpensive motel. It's a small motel and I'm sure you'd have to reserve in advance. You'd also have an option to cut over to Cambridge, Idaho and do the route from there to Lewiston via White Bird Grade. As you've stated, the Spiral Highway at Lewiston (much more fun uphill) and Rattlesnake Grade are not to be missed.Personally, I'd ride Lewiston, Cambridge, Hells Canyon Dam to Richland (307 miles). Next day Richland, Baker City, Enterprise, Spiral Highway (Lewiston) to Medical Lake(347 miles) The Washington side of Rattlesnake is longer than the Oregon side, much twistier and also much better to ride uphill.

I'd like to, it just depends on the dates. I'm a Lead (road foreman) for the Washington State DOT. There are 2 jobs we do that are almost impossible for me to get out of. Snow/Ice events and paving.We usually do a lot of paving in July. Also, another suggestion would be to ride to Grangeville and spend the night rather than Lewiston. Lewiston, being in a hole, can be very uncomfortably hot in July. Grangeville is much higher in elevation and only 72 miles down the road. Not having ridden with any of you folks, not sure if this would be a get on the bike and get there ride or if folks wanted to stop a bunch, look around, take pictures etc. Each of those routes I mentioned earlier figures on the latter, but are still pretty easy day rides.

As this is probably the first and only time a few of these people will ever be out here we will probably do a combination of the two with some lollygagging along the way.
