I only removed the portion of the air intake ducting necessary to fit the triple filters. I left all the undertank ducting in place. I figured it would be easier to go back to stock that way.

I did remove the intake air temp sensor from the interior ducting as it read too high sitting in the stagnant air. I left the crankcase fitting in place since I left the stock filter in the airbox. Between having the saddlebags and the need to remove two screws to take the seat off makes the idea of using the filter box for storage less important on the R3T.

Has any of the folks who converted to the triple filters thought about removing the old airbox entirely and fitting a full size car battery in the resulting cavern?

I think most leave the old air filter box in place and use it for extra storage... :) I personally can't see the need for a bigger battery. My first one lasted for several years, and the replacment I have is one of those "AGM batteries" and it works awesome.

We are trying to start a 2.3 ltr engine (same size as my brother's Mazda) with a battery designed for 1 ltr engines. If the outside temp drops below 35 deg, you can't count on the Yusa to start it. I've gone the Odyssey pc625 route and it seems to be holding up. I was just wondering if anyone had tried to install a full size car battery.

Daytona

Three Daytonas are a lot better than K&Ns. Draw more air easier to clean and with tune-boy!!!

I think I get to much rain here for the exposed filters. I think I am just going to go with the K&N and a new tune. I would like to get rid of my rev limiter. Keeps kicking in at about 55 when I am trying to get into traffic. You can tell the engine has a little more room before problems but then it cuts out. Irritating.

One use of the snorkel is to keep water out of the air filter. I rode through some fairly deep water last year and some of it came in the top of the air filter. If I would have had the snorkel in place, the top of the filter would have been sealed off. The water did not get to the motor.

I think I'd rather find a bridge or ferry

I took one look at the size of the hole/under seat air intake and tried to imagine the effort it took a 2300cc engine to pull air through it. That was all it took to decide on triple filters.
My supercharged 1.6L MINI cooper intake was twice as big. My wifes 2.6L V6 Benz has Two filters with intakes as large as quart oil cans .... why in the hell is the 2.3L R3 trying to suck air through that little hole?
