I still have mine on only because I never took it off. Where it's located I figure it gets a boost from methane when I fart.. But it won't hurt anything to remove it..

Whats the purpose of the snorkel?

The only thing I can figure is it's there to draw in cooler air from outside of the underseat area, kind of like the snorkels that lead from the air filter to somewhere out from under the hood.

For instance, my van has a snorkel that leads from the air filter to the front grill area. My truck had a snorkel that went from the air filter to the inside of the front fender, where the air is cooler. I can't see it making that much difference on a bike though

I pulled mine off last weekend when I was putting on the sissy bar. Didn't really notice a big difference but I think that will come when I put on the K&N.

Don't expect much from a drop in K&N. I didn't notice any change. Now, replace that drop in with 3 K&N's and the corresponding tune and you'll see some serious improvement.

ok so its fine to take it off I wasn't even thinking of any improvement with it off just some added room for when I get the alarm

So the drop in K&N is just a one piece filter kit as opposed to 3 individual K&N's that can be purchased from say Flip??

I don't know about taking the snorkel off, but I HIGHLY recommend leaving the wet suit on the bike if you plan on doing any riding down here in the spring. Hell, I've been half tempted to pack flippers.

Yes.. the drop-in K&N replaces your stock air filter. You just swap it out and roll..
I have the drop-in K&N filter now, however, I do love the looks of the triple K&Ns and the bear claw trimmed to show them off..

With the K&Ns Flip carries, you remove the whole intake duct work all the way to the throttle bodies. Then, you place the 3 individual air filters, one each, on each of the throttle bodies. You will also need one for the air temp sensor, and one for the crank case vent, which Flip also carries..
