R3T Owners....need some help/advice.

The "box" for the heated grip switch is a little big, but it leaves extra room to add an extra switch for lights and stuff. I have a three way toggle in the extra hole for led frame lights, on-off-on with ignition. That way the lights can be left on while showing off, turned off, or auto mode where they come on when the bike is on.

- I'd take a "pass" on the luggage rack. I've never used it in the 1 1/2 years of ownership

- The risers and the Roadster shield were necessities for me. I'm 5'10" and had to reach too far with the stock risers. The stock shield created buffeting for me. The Roadster screen is too tall, but I can (and will) have it trimmed down. I also like having the windshield bag. It's good for keeping things like the garage door opener in. I wish it were a little larger, however. The ones on my Harleys were all quite a bit larger. A CrampBuster or similar device is a necessity. Triumph screwed the pooch by not putting a cruise control on the R3T.

- I have 3000 miles on the replacement tires and they're looking great. They also ride better than the original OEMs.

- I don't have any experience with the GPS hookups (don't use a GPS on the bike)

- The horn sucks. I wish it blew. ;)

the gloves that I'm using right now is a waterproof wet suit neoprene gloves they r waterproof and keeps your hands warm i have always had problem with my fingertips getting numb that was the main reason for the heated grips but so far the gloves are doing there jobs
got them from gemplers

Rainman, is that Gerbings or Gemplers? If it is Gemplers do they have a website?

RocketDaryl, I hear you on the luggage rack, but in my case (as you can see on my traveling set up to/from Daytona/Key West last year) I used mine as a support. Also if I decide to improvise a top case (Harley or otherwise) I will probably need it to bolt onto.

There is a guy in Pensacola who had devised a cruise control for the Rocket. When I return in a couple of weeks I'm going to see if I can get back in touch with him and see if he had refined it enough to sell it. He said it would probably go for about $175 to $200 at the time (this was last year before I started my latest Afghanistan adventure).

If I decide to trade in my Rocket, in the absence of any buyers out there, I will probably take a few things off (the Zumo mount, .....maybe the Cycle Sounds, the front crash...er, I mean front "dresser" bars, highway pegs. I guess the Clearview windscreen will stay with the bike (wish there was a way to transfer it over to the R3T but with that "quick release" set up I may have to get a new one from Clearview to match it).

And Daryl I hope that the "new" fix for that shifter linkage, that broke on you, with it's "beefier" componets will eliminate that problem that you, and a few others, have run into on that.

Thanks again for all the comments, I getting my "plan" together, it'll be awhile before I "go for it" but I hope to be better prepared than when I bought my 07.

I personally like the rack. I guess it depends on how much you plan to travel, and if you ride with a passenger or solo. Since my wife doesn't ride with me I have a Solo seat with the rack and use it for the bag shown in the pic below. Hell, I've even removed the rear floorboards since with the Solo seat they served no purpose.

Molinoman: Let us know about the cruise control for the Rocket. I've been testing the available set-ups and haven't been greatly impressed with any of them.

At $175 to $200, that would be a good price for a throttle assist or better yet--a true cruise control.

Actually, I'd use that rack. I'm talking about the one that attaches to the back of teh sissybar. My wife rarely rides so I also have the solo seat with backrest. I wish Triumph would've had the forethought to make the over the fender rack compatable with the quick disconnect docking kit.

Rainman, that's good to hear, I'll check into them.

Solo rack not compatible with QR passenger backrest

Dang it. Just bought the solo rack and found out that it isn't compatible with the quick release passenger backrest. That means that I've gotta spend 20 minutes swapping out the two if my wife wants to ride with me (once a month). Rats!

I guess I wish I would have had the forethought to read RocketDaryl's post about how he wished Triumph would have had the forethought to ensure both parts were compatible (before I bought this rack).

Sigh...Look for my solo rack on eBay soon...
