Longshot here bit I need a R3T drivers backrest post. I actually have a new Triumph pad and backing plate but just lack the actual post and hardware. I thought just maybe someone has a junk backrest with a salvageable post. Thanks!

@WisconsinRocket Can you please post a photo of the rear of your back rest pad where the post fits/attach?
I have sold about 5 of those factory backrests with and without the seats.

The tricky bit is getting a neat connection of the post to the back pad and angle adjustment.

I now have a few NOS matching Touring LONGHAUL BACKREST PAD - PILLION A9708159 that I am intending to attach to some seat posts I have made to fit the 4 bolt underseat mount with a welded square bar and a few attachment options with various levels and methods of adjustment possible.
The first one I made I laboriously tapped the 4 holes for Allen head bolts from under seat. The next ones I simply drilled a bigger hole and put bolts through from top or bottom with lock nuts using a socket/Allen bit on an driver extension bar or a screw driver type socket handle. Much easier.:whitstling::thumbsup:

No where near as complex as the six stage dial system on the stock version though but should allow even more height adjustment depending on both post length and by having a 2 square tube system with the smaller inside the larger with drilled holes and bolts/ pins allow a strong but greater height range too. Having 2 lock pins/bolts would reduces rattle and movement if you have a larger size difference between the 2 tubes but as these two square tubes are so similarly in size only one pin/bolt is really required.

The post can be covered by polished chrome/stainless vacuum cleaner pipe or black concertina vacuum hose/ pipe fittings for a neater finish. As the mount is under the seat and there is hole channel through he seat these covers easily sit a few inches down that hole giving a neat finish and reducing the possible flexing of the seat post.

Another classy looking method using a generic Mustang or eBay Harley accessory backrest with the flat blade post was posted by @Jason Jurgens as below.

I bought a couple of the ebay Harley flat blade ones to play with and have modded one to fit with the stock R3 Riders seat without the backrest hole. By bending and drilling experimenting with the supplied mounts etc and using the 3 rear fender mount holes for the stock pillion bracket.

Thank you Ishrub for all your help! These are the parts I have. I have the two piece R3T Long haul seat and I think this was the factory pad and backer for it.
Your parts are actually from a Thunderbird pillion backrest basically identical to the Touring Longhaul but possibly a different vinyl color or texture.

It is definitely NOT a rider's backrest pad.:(

It is similar in every way to my R3 Touring Longhaul pillion backrest pads except you are missing the backing plate #4 in image A9750688.

And the kits come with the metal Triumph badge as well.
You have parts #2 and #3 in parts diagram below.
The plate is still available from Triumph Dealears worldwide on order from UK and I can get one from an NOS source as well.

Oh bummer. Well at least because it's a Thunderbird part it is still available. If I got the plate will that pad work with any of the ideas you had for the mount?
Yes, it is the same as a few of mine, you just have to make or find/modify up a bracket to attach. I think plenty of old office chairs or other odds and sods from a junk yard shop could provide a suitable attachment but do not limit yourself even a door or gate T hinge may work if you find the right one and it may even allow a flip fwd or back option if you have a hard time 'getting your leg over'. ;):D

It is easy to cover the item with vinyl or leather too so do not get hung up about looks - function rules and then cover it/ paint it, shape it, whatever.
